"Castles In The Air" pretty much sums up my attitude to life. Not as well known as "Pie", "Vincent" or "And I Love You So" but it's my favourite.

fwiw.... it's my favorite McClean song too.  The first two lines of the chorus still give me goose bumps every time I hear them, or sing them.

One set of names I can't believe I failed to mention, and that I can't believe no one else included.

Felice and Boudreau Bryant.

I am not a musician so I would choose a poet who was not a lyricist. This portion of a poem by Swineburne (?not going to check that) but I am not a musician. What do the musicians think about these words as lyrics?

I think this portion is so even in meter that it could be set as an Opera, Rap, Rock and Roll, Ballad, Slow Tune, Fast Tune, Pop, or Tribal drums.

From too much love of living
From hope and fear set free
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be
That no life lives forever
That dead men rise up never
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to sea.

That bit of English verse is to be aspired to, no matter what the genre. It is so smooth!
Other than that I like Robert Hunter and Billy Joel Shaver.

I really admire the work of Eg White and Dan Wilson who do a lot of co-writing work with artists.
That'd be my dream job.

My pick would have to be Carole King. She is definitely one of the best songwriters of all time. Especially her collaborations with Gerry Goffin. What a wonder writing duo.
