This is a song I began around 8 month ago and put aside not really knowing what to do with it.
I ended up messing around with synths and loops to try and make something of it and when I recently got some nice string samples plugged a gap in the end.

I find myself really quite liking it after all that.

So I guess I am wondering if it sounds like a thing that is completed, or something thrown together and a collection of bits? And do the strings sound ok and do they fit the track?

Thanks,

Tom.

She Don't Live Here Any More

She don't live here any more
She's a vagabond queen fore-evermore
She don't live here any more
Yeah she slipped through my fingers out the door

And I bet that she's still beautiful
And I bet that she could charm all the little birds from the trees

She don't live here any more
It's just a trick of the light you never saw
She don't live here any more
Though she haunts ever room, on every floor

And I bet that she's still beautiful
And I bet some guy just treasures the very air that she breathes

No doubt
She's gonna throw her love about
Gonna make his body sing
No doubt
She'll rip his very essence out
And he is just a shadow that sings

She don't live here any more

She don't live here any more

And I bet that she's still beautiful
And I bet that she could charm all the little birds from the trees

Nice track. I think the verse to chorus transition is tasty, and
In my opinion it does hold together as a complete track.

The synths are sweet, and the rhythmic guitar works to augment the sound.

The only part that sounded out of place was the triplety drum fill in the middle, the rest of the track is great!

Cheers

Sounds pretty awesome to me! Groovy and catchy and a very nice instrumentation though I'm not sure about the strings. Personally I would have kept it 100% synths but that's my very personal opinion. Very close to finished I would says.

Hi Tom

Really enjoyed this one. Took a bit of time to warm up to the beepy front end, but when your great vocals kicked in all became well :). Loved the funky guitar work! The strings sound a little out of place prob because there is no hint of orchestration before their entry. But they are a sweet sound!

Nice work!

Hi Tom, really liked it - Really well put together, loved the funky guitar and the drop out to the bass line. The strings work perfectly in my opinion. Only minor criticism would be the ending, it just sort of died, but this is a WIP as you say and I wanted more.

Nice work

I think we all tend to try too hard..IMHO this is radio ready..

Tom, lots to like here, although you're one of those lucky guys with a voice who could make singing a telephone directory sound like a hit...
Anyway i think the verse is really, really catchy and i like the sparse and modern arrangement.
Love the way how it develops in in the 2nd verse where the drums change and those backing vocals just set it off.
Nice strings later on, perhaps you could have some delay on the vocals towards the end on the 1.51.
Kind of blue eyed soul
Good luck with it.

All I really know is that I liked it.  I'm a lyrics guy, so I'll comment on what I like about the lyric.  I love the brevity and the use of simple lines to express complex emotions.

I don't think the lyric is better than the music, but lyrics are what I understand best, so that's why I'm drawn to the lyric on this one.

Hey Bos,

Excellent tune!....Loved the funky guitar feel with the delay....It really moved the groove along....Shadow is right "blue eyed soul"...  I don't like the strings...I'd rather comp it with some nice guitar extensions to darken it up a bit...Strings are always such a finicky thing to keep it from sounding like an obvious emotional pull....Your vocals are great and clear and it doesn't need the strings to compete...Just my thoughts....could be way off base....
Lyrics are top notch ...understated longing and resignation...through great images....
Great work!

I really love this.. I stumbled across it on Soundcloud and it's superb. To me it sounds finished and perfect as it is.

I loved this. I think the production is "simple" and effective not "rough"...

It may be just me (again) but I found the panning a bit extreme up to about 20" (drums very much on one side and synths very much on the other)....

I actually liked the strings - they do come in quite suddenly but perhaps if there were some more sustaining instruments earlier on it would be less of a shock.

Cool!
