I bought my dear old dad a bottle of Ireland's finest whiskey today
and i bought my mam a snowball cake, she's easily pleased.

                  GOD BLESS MISTER JAMESON

I'm a blue jeans tee-shirt kind of a guy
steak and ale and kidney that's my kinda pie
i wear my suit on sunday but only for church
and if i've been a sinner then give me the birch

i aint no science teacher but i've got the shoes
in L.A. there's a preacher and he's spreading the news
my whiskey comes from Ireland the land of the green
god bless mister Jameson you know what i mean

mister Jameson got his water from the Liffy
he turned it into whiskey and it made me kinda squiffy
i wear my suit on sunday but only for church
and if i've been a sinner then give me the birch
mister Jameson you're front page news
mister Jameson god bless your shoes
three sheets to the wind i was left in the lurch
i wear my suit on sunday but only for church

blue jeans tee-shirt on sunday a tie
steak and ale and kidney that's my kinda pie
i aint no science teacher but i've got the shoes
in L.A. there's a preacher and he's spreading the news
blue jeans tee-shirt on sunday a tie
steak and ale and kidney that's my kinda pie
my whiskey comes from Ireland the land of the green
god bless mister Jameson you know what i mean
that preacher he's in L.A. and he's spreading the news
i don't know what you call this but it sure aint the blues.

Paul i forgot to say,yes the bottle of Jamesons was the spark
that ignited the flame and i've got a pair of slip on shoes that
i refer to as my science teacher shoes,i can just imagine a science teacher
or maybe a geography teacher wearing these shoes,
                                                                        tom.

Tom

You'll never need a singer because your songs sing themselves!
My favourite kind of pie is humble - but they don't serve enough of it anymore :)

Stellar!

Simple and effective, I think this would make a great melody.

The only comment is that it might be worth bringing up the Jameson reference a few more times, perhaps in other guides. To me, it's not clear that Jameson's is the focus (except for title and hook)

Might just help bed the lyrics down to the story

Thanks

Great lyrics Tom, its hard not to start singing as you read them. I was singing along to The Red and Green of Mayo by the Saw Doctors in an Irish accent.

A good way to finish off a Wednesday evening.

    Hi Tom,
Always enjoy you posts bud, your style is unmistakable. This kicks off well with a couple of interesting verses. Im galloping along thinking, yes tom! give it to me man, i'm loving this. Then it ends so abruptly. Would have liked a couple more verses at least my friend, i was just getting into it. Good while it lasted, but i was hungry for more.

Yeah Vintage i've got to agree,
this could have been so much better if i'd
left it for a while and thought about it a bit more,if i can be arsed i might
re-write it but i'll not stick it on the forum.

Dad loved the whiskey, mam was chuffed with her snowball cake,
                                                                                          Tom.

Long lead-in (about twenty seconds) and two nice complementary musical bridges and this is PLENTY LONG ENOUGH.

One thing I've learned (maybe the ONLY thing I've learned for sure) is to "quit talking" when I've said everything I have to say.

I wouldn't let anyone talk me into adding to what you feel is finished.

And if you feel it's finished, I fully endorse your decisions.

Songs that are "too long" are a dime a dozen.   Songs that are "too short" are very rare.  One of my favorite songs is "Tea for the Tillerman."

It's less than forty five seconds start of vocal to end of vocal.  I never get tired of it.
