What does everyone think of the concept?

One of my main aims in songwriting is to create a darker, more Gothic-inspired style of punk, somewhere between the sound of White Lies and Tonight Alive; I got to thinking recently that a piano would greatly add to that.

So far, the people I've asked (mostly music students and members of local bands) have been of mixed opinion. It seems it's a love it/hate it kind of thing, and I was wondering what you all thought as more experienced musicians.
Band recommendation of the week: Fit For Rivals? False. Renee Phoenix has no rivals.

Be different, there's only one way to find out by having a go.

It could work, but it would have to be rough and ready...

I think this could work really well but until yo try it there is no knowing for sure

I would keep things "dark" - me not a bright piano sound and a dark reverb

Perhaps even a touch of distortion/grunge on the piano would help sit it in the mix/ genre

Would live to hear it!

Not sure if Rock the Casbah could be regarded as an example? Well it's a punk band and I think the song has some prominent piano.

Here's what I'm sure of.  Those of us who don't know until we hear it are your best friends.

Those who have a pre-conceived notion that it WILL, or WON'T work have to be ignored.

And since they would not have an opinion unless they had pre-conceived notions, everyone with an opinion must be ignored.

It's YOUR vision man.  YOU go prove it can work... or in trying, and failing, prove that it won't work your way.

That's how music moves forward.  Have the courage of your convictions and do your best.

We'll all know whether we like it after we hear it.  Those who know it's a good (or bad) idea before they hear it really don't know any more than those of us who are AWARE that we don't know.
