I have just joined and this forum could be exactly what I'm looking for.

I have tried songwriter forums on Reddit and Facebook but, to be honest, there is always someone there to put you down or give a flippant answer or, in a lot of cases, not answer at all!

From what I can see, this forum seems VERY active with a lot of great comments so I'm looking forward to getting in amongst it.

Welcome to the forum. I know what it's like on those Facebook groups! They seem to be mostly full of idiots. I'd say they're 5% musicians actually looking to engage seriously and the rest just muddy the waters...

So, what are your skills, musically? Do you just write or do you perform? Or both?

Welcome to the forum! The talk of Facebook groups reminded me of a chat channel we had in work. I work for a very big company with thousands of employees, and before we shifted to MS Teams, we had active channels for various interests. One of those was for musicians, and people would talk about guitars, how they practiced, where they played, etc. One guy on there was so opinionated about everything and I'm sure wound up a few more people than just me. Then someone asked him what instrument he played. Turns out, he didn't play anything, wasn't learning to play anything, didn't compose or do anything remotely related to making music. So yeah - one of those "experts".

@Bankie - I had the same experience once on a “professional” producer’s forum, there was one guy who was very quick to criticise a mix, but half of what he said sounded like he’d lifted it off a YouTube video, and he was telling me to buy 1176’s and SSL desks, none of which is necessary ..I smelled a rat, so i checked him out…what he’d produced, his songs…total shite and full of nothing…i left the forum immediately. I’m always wary of folk that don’t walk the walk.
