As some of you probably know, my plan for February this year was to write and record a full album in 28 days. I lost a few days, as it happens, so I missed out on my last song (which may get re-worked sometime) but I managed 11 songs for the album.

The idea was to use the same drum loops for them all…giving it a sort of continuity that albums used to have in the olden days, when I would listen to albums. They might still be doing that now, I don’t know…it’s nearly all shite to me, nowadays…even when it’s probably excellent…

Anyway, I uploaded it as soon as February ended and it was released today.

I think “moon and back” may be my favourite song that I’ve written. That might just be because the subject has fascinated me for many years…

I’ll likely upload it to Bandcamp when I’m able to…so anyone who wants it can get a copy there for nowt.

It was an interesting project to do…

Brilliant Paul. Will be on my listening list for sure. What a brilliant selection of song’s written in such a short period of time. It’s important to get your music out there and I think it’s great that we are able to do that. It’s a choice between leaving the stuff on our hard drive or going for it.

Ps. The Amuse app it a great quick easy and free way to get your music out there. I uploaded another album there recently but have to wait about a month which is no problem really

@PaulAds ,

You're a star Paul.  Such a great achievement in such little time.  You know that I love your writing.  I have a busy week with exam prep for work then I have about 10 dayS off from work.  This will be a go to album for me and will take pride of place in my collection of  albums.  Kudos to you my friend!

Nice one Paul. It's a serious feat to write and record an album in such a short space of time. And the tunes sound sick as well. Gonna listen to the whole thing at some point today. I would really like to do something like this one day.

Yay!  Just downloaded on Deezer and will be treating my ears to this in the coming days.  Still astonishing you can crank out an album in a month.  I think I'm on about year 7 of mine...
It's all too beautiful.

This is pretty amazing dude and a piece of work you should be proud of….I reckon the speed of work and lack of thinking time has given you a special album ❤️

Neil Finn recorded his album “out of silence” live via a webcam in 4 hours - he had broadcast two rehearsals the previous two Fridays recording and releasing a single each week and just went for it on the 3rd Friday…it was very special watching it all come together and how he had the nerve to do that I will never know….I was sitting on a sun lounger in Greece connecting with people all over the world watching the magic being formed…

And now you have your own magic out there 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks, Andy @kafla

It was a strange thing…I wasn’t intending to do it, but I’m so pleased I did.

There’s a dynamic at play that’s impossible to
replicate…I think that was the attraction with it for me. I usually try to write a song when an idea comes to me…but with FAWM, you are trying to write a song before an idea has come to you. It’s like work…when you really can’t be tossed with it, but you know you’ve got to do it…and doing it badly isn’t much of an option.

I think it’s quite a liberating way of working…you just have to get on with it. I started kicking myself about bits I could have added or some differently. But just doing them in such a focused way and then uploading the album straight afterwards removes any possible prevarication.

Like most songs, I now wonder where they came from…and I’m filled with trepidation at the prospect of trying to do it again one day and making a horses ass of it. It’s definitely possible. But it is a nice feeling to have been able to do it and the encouragement and response from my friends here has been fantastic.

I really think working towards a specific goal is “a good thing”

That’s what we often have to do in “real” life and it can be very good for us.

At the very least, it was good for me on this occasion…

Thanks! 😀

I think it’s pretty amazing my friend or as you would say ….very fabulous 🤣

Interesting your work like approach - I can certainly force songs out but don’t….but now wondering what would happen if I did 🤩

I think what’s more amazing is you have genuinely produced a class piece of work 🤝❤️

@PaulAds,

I'm listening to your album right now.  Man I hate study.  I've had a week off from work and have been writing 2 essays of 3000 words.  I'm so out of touch with the process.

Having said that, you are so in touch with the writing process.  The opening track is so immediate.  Concise and memorable lyrics.  The solo is ace too!

"It's a no from me" is simply beautiful. I get the impression that it was all so easy for you to write, perform and produce these songs.  I guess this is partly true because you're such an accomplished writer but experience tells me that you must have worked hard to deliver these beauties!  I'm on track three, 'ZZ Tramp' It's skips along, providing a new distinct melody to the last and of course, the concise lyrics are evident here too.  You don't waste any words, when often others often do.  That's the hall mark of a great writer in my opinion.  Love the dynamics here. "women go crazy for the chap with the beard" I love it! I admire how you can be so direct; a writer not to be messed with but then there's a lovely gentle side to your personality which shines through and is reflected in the melodies often facilitated by your use of Major 7th chords.  "States I've been in" is currently playing.  Such a cool song.  Elvis Costello would have been proud to include this one in his library of songs.  It has real charm! Love the word play, never been to the USA but man I've been in some states."  Such clever lyrics that reveal your thought processes and how you implement these cool observations of life.  "A gigantic ice cream that keeps licking itself." I love that lyric.  'Puleez' is quite possibly my favourite song from this collection.
Man. where does your inspiration come from?  "Get Some' is now playing as the album roles on and still you  maintain a lovely fresh approach.  Quite an achievement from a writer who has engaged his craft for so many years.  You manage to present a Monkey-esque song based on limited lyrics yet you still engage the listener.  Yeah, The Beatles meets The Monkeys.  The m8 section, though not 8 bars does exactly what a m8 should, offering contrast and relief before jumping back into the body of the song.  it's skilful and very cool!  War of the Roses,  different indeed.  Sadly, no sign of Kathleen turner but hey we have the funeral crasher at work and the stage is his.  Bass is sounding ace on this track and so.......we arrive at the closing number.  I've been thoroughly engaged throughout the listening experience.  There is something for everyone here.  Love the mood of the closing track.  Your album gives us everything but then everything is often present in any given track here: song craft, wit, conciseness, melody, sadness humour.  What more could any of us demand? Delightful

Yeah really enjoyed this album too Paul - plenty of laugh out loud moments but it also has a gritty edge and plenty of bite.  And more than its fair share of hooks.  The track with echoes of 'The Final Countdown' in particular.  Yes, still astonished this is the product of one short month's work!
It's all too beautiful.
