Hi all
Its been quite a while since I posted a song here, so here goes. I was trying to copy a Steven Wilson drum groove on Cubase and the song went from there. Its quite sad.
I've started learning guitar since my last post, and this song features 4 different guitar sounds and a one string solo so please forgive the sloppiness!
From a production perspective, there are about 38 Cubase tracks! Ive been trying to learn how to mix and master properly too so any feedback on that would also be welcome.
Thanks
James

Destiny
Try as I might
I have failed to get it right
Will you see what's on the horizon for yourself
Through the lens of the past
Oh these walls were made to last
And so I try to find a doorway
to your mind
Dont let these things return to haunt you
Dont be a hostage of your own making
Dont let the sky fall in around you
Dont be the one to make me feel worthless
Now I stand at the door
With those who've gone before
Now Im searching for a reason to turn around
Breath without living
Touch without feeling
Live without loving
Lifes eternal victim

Hi James
What a great soundscape :D
Love the tracking harmonies - almost get a Mamas and Papas feel - but more current :D
Lyrics are good too. Can't find a nit - just can't find one. :D
Nice work!

Hola @jamesh (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19375)
I think that your beginnings recording, editing and producing have worked very well.
I really like your song, it has personality and a good set of sounds.
Perhaps I would accentuate the bass and at minute 1'42 approx. I would lower the volume of an instrument that appears on the right because I found it somewhat dissonant with the guitar ... (At least this is my sensation on my headphones)
Very good lyrics.

Hello James, well it certainly doesn't sound like you've only just started learning guitar! Guitar sounded really good in this. Mix sounded solid too. For some reason overall it reminded me (in the first half) of Enigma... probably the combination of the beats and the wide open feel of the instrumentation and the lyrics. It's a cool track - it had a good flow, no sharp corners - hypnotic and entrancing. Good as it is, I think I'd be inclined to shave 30 seconds off it and trim down the middle instrumental section a tad (maybe halve the guitar solo section?). Vocal treatment sounded super by the way. Percussion was nice and prominent in the mix and I thought that suited this track really well.

Hi James,
Really cool track.
Love the sonics of the guitar over the synth backing.
It's like a modern, poppy, Pink Floyd.
Vocals are great and really in keeping with the music.
Bass line bubbles along nicely.
