OK - So a few of you have expressed interest in taking part in this little challenge (not a competition !) So this is what I propose....
We will have a list of entrants in pot 1 and a list of genres in pot 2. We'll do a live draw on the Zoom call on Friday 8th May at 8pm UK time. (You don't have to be on the call to be involved in the challenge) Each entrant drawn from pot 1 will have 2 genres drawn from pot 2 and can choose 1 of those genres :)
Then the challenge will be to write a song in that genre in the next month.
Who's in ??? It's a bit of fun and I think it will be an interesting exercise in working on a genre that you may have not before
Let me know and I'll compile a list of entrants. I've got a list of genres but will probably discard some of the more obscure one's unless that is you don't want me to.
Cheers All
John
-
Hi John, sounds great. Count me in ;D
-
Sounds crazy. Count me in too 😃
-
I want to give it a try...but...if I'm totally lost, can I ask someone for help??? And/or, are collaborations allowed? I suppose that wouldn't actually work if you're drawing lots for genres.... But I might need help. I'm really not good with even identifying genres.
-
I'm sure we can help you out Vicki @CaliaMoko (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19928) :)
-
I'm in. Hope I get medieval-country-punk-jazz.
-
@adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) And me ;D
-
I'm in. Hope I get medieval-country-punk-jazz.
I hope you get Rap :D
-
I'm in - I'll probably get hiphop or Rap.
A choice between a booger and a turd. :(
-
Which one would you prefer @Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) ? The draw can always be subtly manipulated at a price
-
How about revealing the genres @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269)? This might help pull in even more poor innocents. Even @paulski might think he had a chance of avoiding his dreaded categories. Plus the poor guy is freezing in Canada while we in the UK are positively basking in sunshine 😀 Gothic Classical could be his!
-
OK. I will reveal the genres tomorrow although I haven't heard of quite a few of them but quite happy to have a crack at any genre
-
What happens if Paulski get’s Show tunes?
:-)
Neil
-
The judges readjust it. But hey, it's gonna be live on Zoom ;D

Thanks John, plenty of fun for everyone there!
So K-Pop is not a cereal? Who knew?
The live draw promises to be a laugh! ;D Anyone else care to join?
-
Great list! Not sure that I can differentiate very well between drill, grime and jungle, but this may be someone's opportunity to show us!
-
no show tunes? :D :D
bluegrass?
-
Wot no bhangra? :P
-
Added ......
-
ooo K Pop....
내 이빨을 넣을 때까지 기다릴 수 없어
-
You do know if anyone does get bhangra that I'm a dead man, right?! :p
-
Please count me in.
Where's "ambient" on the list?
Should be an easy gig for someone... 7 minutes of whale noises and then a bell goes "ping".
-
Added........
-
Wait a sec, we should be taking some off not adding new ones I can’t do! (BTW @sterix Bhangra is “World”!)
-
Ok. The genres list is now closed ;)
-
I have found a Spinning Wheel website into which we can enter the genre names. Looks easy to use and fun!

And you can delete the winning ones, as you go, if you want, to eliminate the possibility of repeat genres.

Haha that's great - and like Vicki says we can remove them for the next spin.
Here's a shared wheel each of us can use on Friday:
https://wheelofnames.com/896-725
-
Oh that's absolutely Brilliant - We can have one for the names and one for the genres ;D ;D
-
Add me to the list if you can @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) . Should be fun & interesting. Nothing to lose apart from the month of May & making myself look like a dick. :D
-
Super - At my count we've got 10 entrants so far. I suggest making the "Live" draw on the Zoom call at 8pm UK time tomorrow. Thanks to @MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274) and @Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) for the spinning wheels. If anyone else wants to join in even after the draw has been made, that's not a problem as we can spin the wheel again ;D
-
I will be late to the Zoom, but if you're still there about 9:00 or so, I will show up. Therapy lasts until 8:30 and it takes a while to get back and situated.
-
Hmmmm....Sounds like trouble to me but wtf else are we going to do in lockdown ;D. I'll give it a go!
-
Cool @PeteS (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22588) It's just a bit of a laugh really but an interesting challenge nonetheless. You're very welcome to tune in and say hello to those of us who are there on the Zoom chat tomorrow evening at 8pm. I'll post the link tomorrow - How are you with Opera ?
-
Haha! I’m not sure Opera is the biggest challenge on there. There’s some I don’t quite know what they sound like and some I haven’t even heard of. I mean, what is drill Nd if I get it can I write about black and decker ;D
I’ll do my best for the zoom call as it would be good to meet some of you, all with an extra inch of hair, but that’s family time really so might be tricky.
-
I just did a test run of the draw tonight and @Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) got "Show Tunes" ;D

Just a test run though @Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) ;D

-
Ha ha! I did a test run the other night and I got "punk"
I even took a screen grab of my achievement!
Tonight...when it's for real...i doubt we'll see lightning strike for a second time 😂
-
Hello John….and all the gang..am I too late to join in the challenge?
I won't be able to do the Zoom thing though.
If yes please don't spin me Showtunes.
-
Oooh Yes - Not too late - I'll add you to the list Ian :) @Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra
-
Great! Thanks John.
-
How do I join the call?

It's still ongoing. Several of us still chatting. Feel free to drop in. We'd love to see/hear you in person.

Now family stuff >:(
-
Has the wheel been spun?
-
Oh Yes - Results will be posted shortly :)
-
:o ;D
-
Hi everyone, I'm fresh out of the Friday Zoom meeting when the Great Wheel was randomly spun to gasps of amazement all round. Here are the genres drawn for each challenger. Two each. You can choose either one or the other for your song project.
@Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra : K-Pop or Drum & Bass
@PeteS (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22588) : Soul or Easy Listening
@Neil C (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18856) : Techno or Grunge
@PaulyX (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21034) : Rhythm & Blues or Opera
@adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124): Grime or Dubstep
@5 guys named Lars (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22535) : Motown or Mod
@pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) : Jazz or Punk
@Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241): Garage or Metal
@PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) : Show Tunes or World
@MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274) : Hip Hop or Reggae
@CaliaMoko (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19928) : Trance or Pop
@cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308) : Funk or Rap
@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024): Rock or Dance
If anybody else wants to join just let @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) know and we will spin the wheel on the next available Friday Zoom meeting. It is not a competition, just a songwriting challenge for us all.
You have until the end of June to complete your songs. @Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) suggested using the Feedback on Unfinished Songs section of the forum for those of us who might need early guidance on genre offerings that are, by definition, alien to us.
Good luck all, and most of all have fun! :D
-
Just wanted to say a huge Thank You to all the entrants. It was an exciting night. I should have recorded it but forgot. Although there are 2 genres allocated to each entrant, feel free to either choose 1 or mash the two of them up. I've got Jazz and Punk so definitely going for a mashup. Closing date 30th June, feel free to collaborate with others if you want to. Great to see all you guys again. I think it's great that we all seem to know each other a bit more and can have a bit of a laugh :)
-
Ha! I sneaked back on and had a longer chat with Sterix and then we had the very good fortune to have @adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) show up for a cheeky late chat too...loved that!
cheers to everyone for dropping by :)
-
My birthday today so missed most of the chat - but delighted to receive my genre presents (you bastards)! Lucked out to have a great after-hours chat with @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) and @PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) - cheers and see you next time.
-
What a shame I missed you @adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) Hopefully see you on the box next week
-
I entered the damn thing? o_O
How drunk was I? :P
-
@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) - Enough :-)
-
And I'm paying for it. Currently trowelling through Reaper tutorial videos like they're going out of fashion. I've moved my room around so I can get at my synth easier. Been trying to recall how to play the bloody thing (I'll settle for terrible but right now it's at excrutiating), Oh, and I already have lyrics and a tune to work with. Though I think I may have hampered myself by writing it out of my vocal range. :D
To be honest, I'm just hoping to get enough of it down that I can call in someone to help turn the bloody thing into something vaguely resembling "dance" music...
-
@sterix man your up the creek
With a genre that is dope
With range so high you start to squeak
Synthwise its no hope
Check this out, you know what Im sayin’
Just practicing....
-
@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) Mash them up, a dance rock anthem! I cant wait ;D
Mind you, i've got easy listening or soul :o
Did the wheel know the genres we would least like!!
-
@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) not as drunk as me I think (couldn't stop talking). Still this is your moment to take a quantum leap forward with recording!
Been doing some research into grime these last few days. Found a few gems but mostly just confirmed why I never really got into it in the first place. My family are worried and my Spotify recommendations are shot. Still I'm sure if I just mash up some drum and bass, UK garage and dancehall, then nobody will notice the difference...
-
Hi @adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) , I had a good friend at school called Pete Grime. I'll ask him. He should know what to do! ;)
I have also realised in the last hour why I have never liked Hip Hop!
-
@MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274)
Hip hop
Gotta make it pop
It's too late now
and you cannot stop
Brain is tired
To the point of numb
Lyricist fired
Cause these lyrics are frikkin' dumb!
;)
----
I've got my song idea ready. Got a tune. Got the lyrics nailed. Practising like crazy on the synth to at least get some semblance of a tune on it.
Synth won't speak to Reaper fully at the moment (Reaper can see it but beyond that won't acknowledge it's there to do anything!). That's on my to-do list (in between practasing playing it - I'm a one-finger-at-a-time player but can't even get THAT right!) :P
-
@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) have you designated a vsti instrument to the track that the synth is on ?
-
Yup. I'm following the video guides by that Kenny bloke.
-
Kenny Gioa or something like that. He's good. That's how I learned
-
...just searched youtube on how to rap.... i couldn’t help but notice...27 styles of rap...well i fear that by the end of june there will be 28
-
...seems to be a lot of bad language....just watched the 27 styles of rap, the guy was brilliant but made me realise the enormity of the task...so went on a how to rap video...hmmm not convinced...that led me “how rap multi with syllables” video ...so this is what you need ...seriously it’s what the guy recommends.
1. A knowledge of the alphabet
2. A piece if paper and a pencil
3. Patience
That’s it, so now I’m a rap superstar.
I can honestly recommend watching the 27 rap styles vid.
...words that seem to be popular in rap ho, booty, pussy, crack, dope or is it pope...
Here goes..
I went to morrisons and saw a crack In the window
Saw a friend who was telling me she lost her pussy
Called booty so i exclaimed Ho!
Im sure it'll return, just when i don’t know.
2:05 for good advice
-
Very entertaining indeed ;D
I think my favourites are "Boom Bap" "G-Funk" "Crunk" and "Eminem (On Drugs)"
But just remember what yer man says "You can do this all in your mind in no time at all" ;D ;D ;D
-
Well I googled "Garage" and it seems it started in the 60's and goes right through until now.
The songs in each decade for Garage sound different from each other :(
Think I'll go for Metal - it's better defined - go Metallica! :D
-
@Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) - good call paul, can’t wait to hear it...such a great idea @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269)
-
Cheers @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024). So a hip hop song about a Lyricist who got shot? Thanks, sounds like a great idea! ;)
-
This is indeed quite a hoot - I've been investigating to see if there are any examples of Punk / Jazz fusions. This one is the most interesting that I've found so far.....
-
Hey John, @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) , that's good fun for sure. It sounds a lot harder to play than old skool punk though! ;)
-
I’d pay money not to see them
-
Bugger. All that practice. I think I've cramped my thumb. Or worse, the tendon. Ouch. :(
-
We have another entrant @crystalsuzy (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18947)
The wheel of fortune has been spun and Suzy has been allocated "Drill" and "House" - Good luck Suzy :)
-
@cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308) those vids are excellent. (When people who really like rap hate mumble rap, then that says something - I won't even ask what @Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) has to say!)
-
@adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) - Mumble rap, well I heard everything when I heard that, there is a huge market opportunity for 'Silent Rap' or 'Pony and Trap Rap'
@crystalsuzy (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18947) - Welcome aboard - can't wait to hear your Drill entry....I guess there are 2 sub genres, Hand and Power, with niche offshoots like Black and Decker or DeWalt...
@MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274) - Don't you go nicking my G-Funk Rap man, or that hyper-thingy Rap...
-
'Silent Rap'
I like the sound of that :D
-
Happy to be aboard this crazy alien ship with no rudder ::) Who knows where we'll end up, but I guess as long as I follow the "drill" and "house" rules(whatever they are) I'll be OK ;D ;D I hope nobody else knows anything about either of those genres, cause I have no idea what I've gotten myself into ??? ??? ???
-
I'm having some fun for sure on this little project. Just started to lay some stuff down and I've decided to mash up my two allocated genres Jazz and Punk. I wanted to throw a nod into Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers who sadly passed away yesterday so I'm going for Stranglers inspired keys and bass sound with a Jazz rhythm. It's fecking complicated for sure but great fun and a challenge indeed. I've got some potential punk subject matter as well so developing well. How are you other guys getting on ?
-
Yep, like you John I've been having a bit of fun with it today. I have got two Hip Hop drum loops that seem to go OK together. Once I laid those two down I managed to write a moody synth riff and I've also got the main idea of what I should do with the lyrics. At my age and with my musical cultural background I doubt I can write a proper Hip Hop tune. But it is loads of fun trying to interpret this in any way that I can.
Anyone else reading this and not having joined...well I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Me and Hip Hop, who'd have thought it?! :D
-
Oh forgot to also acknowledge the nod to Dave Greenfield. When I was a youth I reckoned the arpeggio'd riffing to No More Heroes was musical genius. Great song.
But it must be very nice to end this life, as we all must one day, being remembered for your contribution to music! Good life, well done Dave G!
-
Could have been worse ... I got Motown/Mod (so at least I don`t need to rap) ;D
Thought I`d got off to a cracking start this morning only to find out after half an hour it was "Chain Reaction" by Diana Ross. ::)
-
I know the feeling @5 guys named Lars (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22535). I wrote 'Whiter Shade of Pale' on my synth/organ a few months back!
-
Should we post our entries in "Finished Songs". No, I'm not ready yet, though I have a draft I'd like to share somewhere. I'll put it in "Works in Progress". Or better in here? I need more help, I think. Or maybe just some hand-holding or pats on the head....
-
@Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) suggested we put songs we'd like early feedback on in the Unfinished Songs sub-forum. That went down pretty well on the Zoom call, although you must have missed that part Vicki. But well done you for getting on with it already.
-
Thanks, @MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274) . Yeah, I don't make out everything people say on Zoom. And I forget the rest. ::) Well, not all of it....
-
Hi John @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) I've done mine and just recorded the vocal tonight...weird trying to do a "show tune" as it's something I've never even thought of doing before. I guess that's the whole point, though!
Is it ok to post it in finished songs with an "alien genre challenge 2020" heading without upsetting the "one song per 14 days" rule?
-
Yep, Go for it @PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) ;)
-
...just searched youtube on how to rap.... i couldn’t help but notice...27 styles of rap...well i fear that by the end of june there will be 28
We just did a rap part in one of our songs, started as a joke (or Sunday afternoon challenge from Neil) but we really like it now. My kids are sooooo embarrassed though ;D
I'll put it up at some point to give you all some fun ;D
-
You see, it's kind of fun once you get used to the feeling of sounding like a complete berk....Indeed I'm thinking of attacking one of the other 27 styles....
As for embarrassing the kids, wait til you're in a Tescos checkout queue with them before belting it out at full voice, but take your shirt off first and lower your M&S elasticated waist 'Slacks' about a foot first...Doing the Crips Walk (C Walk - check You tube), and the thing the Crips do with their hands, looks a bit like making shadow puppets to me...The Wolf, or the Dog...Now at least your 18" woofer in your boot will shine with the clarity of a Condenser Mic and the Behringer AI....
I feel there's a bunch of Home Boys on the block Peter, @MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274) - You in Dude?
-
Well I've finished my entry which misses the DnB target I would say, but not really being able to get into what exactly makes a DnB song, I can't say by how much. I'm not much good at genre categorisation and on top of that don't listen and haven't listened to much music in the last years strange as that may seem. I used to listen to a lot when I was younger...a lot younger! An acquaintance of mine says that I haven't really got past the 70s and he's not all wrong!
I'll post it when I can get round to reviewing the other entries. Can't seem to get myself going on lots of fronts at the moment. This is first song since last September or thereabouts.
Enjoy your Friday night Zoom thing guys. See you soon.
-
Great to hear from you, Ian @Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra 😃
I was wondering how you were getting on and if you'd be able to pull something out of the bag for this...so I'm chuffed that you've got something cooking.
I'm really looking forward to hearing it.
I pretty much gave up on new music after 1983...so I'm not very far behind you at all...
Maybe if someone did something we loved, we'd love it 😂
Until then...
-
@Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra - you’ve been sorely missed
-
Great to hear from you Ian @Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra. Really looking forward your compo :)
-
Hey Viscount, great to see you around again. Look forward to hearing something new from you even if it’s not what it says on tin!
-
Mine's just about done although like Cramer, I don't think I nailed Drill or House ;) ;) ;)
-
Mines half-ass done.
Why did I get metal? why why why???
-
Hi everyone, I'm fresh out of the Friday Zoom meeting when the Great Wheel was randomly spun to gasps of amazement all round. Here are the genres drawn for each challenger. Two each. You can choose either one or the other for your song project.
@Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra : K-Pop or Drum & Bass
@PeteS (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22588) : Soul or Easy Listening
@Neil C (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18856) : Techno or Grunge
@PaulyX (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21034) : Rhythm & Blues or Opera
@adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124): Grime or Dubstep
@5 guys named Lars (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22535) : Motown or Mod
@pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) : Jazz or Punk
@Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241): Garage or Metal
@PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) : Show Tunes or World
@MichaelA (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21274) : Hip Hop or Reggae

@cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308) : Funk or Rap
@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024): Rock or Dance
Any more entries to come? Still a few days to deadline!
What then? Do we do a procession or something? ;)
-
Perform it in your kitchen
-
Mine's still to come ;)
-
Mine's in works in progress - advice needed! ;D
http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=17661
-
I fell and hit my head on a rock wall, so my song will be a day or so late, but seeing how this is a challenge, not a competition I figure it will be alright. ;) ;D ;D ;D

Hey @crystalsuzy (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18947) Happy Canada Day!
Mine's late too if it makes you feel any better! ;D ;D

Is that another defintion of Rock Head Banging? Hope you're OK Suzy
-
Yes, that makes me fell a lot better Paulski ;D Happy Canada to you too :) I hope your virtual celebrations are awesome ;D ;D
Yes Rich, I was trying to get pumped about finishing my drill rap/house song, but I guess I got a little too enthusiastic ::) I have a huge egg
on the back of my head, but I think I'm going to survive ::) Maybe it knocked some sense into me ;D ;D
-
Hope the head gets better @crystalsuzy (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18947). I'd stick to songwriting if I were you, much safer hobby than rock climbing. Anything outdoors has got to be a no from me! 😀

Can we have a two week extension to allow me to complete and CS sort out her return to music concussion protocols??

Hey, why not !
-
The owner of the Great Spinning Wheel has spoken. It shall be done! :)
-
From the concussion corner...awesome ;D ;D ;D
-
Hey, just to say sorry I completely flunked on this. I still wanna write my opera at some point but life (mostly work and some home improvement projects) have made music a rare stolen luxury recently. Massive respect to you all venturing so far out of your comfort zones... the ones I've heard so far have been tremendous.

I must have taken a bad knock too, I've just watched 15 styles of Metal.....it's on a question of time, I have to be honest I laughed out loud at some of them, some of the vocals could do with some lemsip, or Venos

Now you know what I'm up against @cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308) :)
Oh well f*ck it - I'll just create my own version of metal :D
-
@Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) - Yip I feel for you, here's what I've learned so far...
1. Get a sore throat before even singing anything.
2. Poke a load of holes through your speak with a screwdriver
3. Buy 2 fuzz boxes
4. Grow a beard
5. Have a black T Shirt with gothic lettering with Death somewhere on it
so that's metal...
-
@cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308) you forgot the most important thing about metal bands: having an umlaut in your name.
@Paulski (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19241) , just call yourself Päulski and it will all come together.
-
@PaulyX (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21034) - yoüre right, näturally
-
@PaulyX (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21034) - OK - I'll try that - it's like an oven in my studio though. Whine, complain etc etc..
-
Mines half-ass done.
Why did I get metal? why why why???
We should have swapped! ;D. My son was desperate for me to get metal, it's about all he plays!
-
Guess this is all about done barring a late flurry from Canada or Hampshire.....
Well I enjoyed the challenge to do something different and I would say I learnt something from it though I probably won't be going any further down that particular genre path. Might lead me to go to some different places in the future but it isn't quite yet. Interested to know how it affected anybody else on that score.
Putting together the song got me out of that peculiar lockdown semi-coma for which I'm grateful so good on ya to the organisers and I'm always up for the challenges if not much else. Strangely enough a song I'm working on which will be my only real song of the year probably was born in a way out of my failure to come up with a song for the New Year comp which I may be able to explain some time before the next new year hopefully.
Thoroughly enjoyed evrybody's take on their genre pick and hope we all got something out of it.
I'm not going to bump up my song post so will take this opportunity to thank all who listened and commented.
For anybody who cares, the sampled soul song was The Spinners 'I'll Be Around'
The backing in the chorus was from Funkadelic 'One Nation Under A Groove'
The extra drum bit for which the prize was a 12 week quarantine cruise on The Diamond Princess was from the intro to 'Power Show' by Fela Kuti.
That's all folks!
