Title: Looking For... Someone To Make A Song For Me
Post by: Sterix on February 23, 2020, 03:53:23 AM
I know I have a topic requesting collaborations and showcasing my "talents" here... but this is a specific request

When I first came here I mentioned I'd once recorded a song with my wife but that I'd lost that recording a long time ago. Someone very kindly had offered to help with it but, to be honest, being a little shy I let the opportunity pass me by.

I'd like to try to resurrect that opportunity. I'm kind of in my wife's bad books at the moment. She feels I've been neglecting her somewhat so I'd like to make it up to her in style (I should explain; I don't intentionally neglect my wife but I've been so stressed with work and my health lately that I've tended to retreat to my computer, which combined with the fact I only sleep 3-4 hours a night so don't go to bed until about 2am... well she claims I don't spend enough time with her at the moment. Problem is, when I get my teeth into something - like the website I'm developing - I get tunnel vision and lose track of time).

So I thought it would be nice to apologise to her with something that means something to her. Recalling a wonderful memory of us doing something together ought to do the trick.

Anyway, enough rambling/preambling.

I'm after someone who can turn one of my lyrics (title Looking For Love) into a song. I've got the tune for it too... it's a male/female duet and was originally played on a synth (but I'm open to any instruments that don't kill the original mood of the song). I suppose you would label the genre as "pop" if it helps. It's also not one of my "too long" lyrics if that helps too!!

If anyone is interested in this project or would like more details, either PM me or reply here. Let me know what you'd need from me (I can provide the lyrics and my vocals obviously).

@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024)

You have sparked the old romantic in me so I am in

I am up for putting the arrangement to your existing melody, recording all instrumentation for the song, producing, mixing and mastering to create a “radio ready” pop song

I would struggle to find time to record a vocal (and would really struggle with a female vocal) so I wonder if we can rope in some other collaborators to record a vocal?

<<Waving hand wildly>> Oh, me, me! Pick me! As long as the tune doesn't go too high, I would love to sing with you @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) ! If that's okay with you....

Hi @Boydie (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18510) - I've replied to your PM. Thank you for offering to do this for me.

Hi @CaliaMoko (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19928) - I won't be singing on this! I could probably sing a decent version but I just don't have any decent equipment for doing so, and nowhere to record privately if I did so. I live in a terraced house with paper-thin walls, and lots of background noise (queue my dog - an Alaskan Malamute - suddenly howling in the back garden. The timing... almost like she's psychic!). I'll leave any "me" singing on it to drunken karaoke sessions with my wife! :p

I would ask Boydie regarding the singing bit, if he's happy for you to help when the time comes for vocals.

Yeah, @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024)  , I didn't read close enough. I saw the word "duet" and made a wild assumption. Regardless, I'd love to work on it. I think Boydie will be okay with it. But you'll need another voice, right? Maybe one of the other wonderful members of this awesome forum will step forward....

As far as amenable venues for recording...I really don't have one, but if someone or something makes a noise in the middle of a word, I do it over. If I miss a buzz, hum, or thump (I think I catch almost all of them), Boydie tells me. And then I do it over. I don't have any dogs, so no canines trying to sing along with me.  ;D

I would certainly be happy to lay down a vocal with Vicki for this @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024), if you're interested

Since you say you have already got a tune in mind, if you have a guide track or a guide vocal I could follow that would be grand.
