Title: Hook Line and Sinker (AtticVibes) - New track
Post by: Cawproductions on January 05, 2020, 06:57:07 PM
Hi all,

I hope everyone had a great xmas and new year....

Heres our latest track, We have been slaving over this all christmas and finally got a descent sound goin on.

Song Story: Wanted to write something upbeat (ish) (Major key) Check
Song Key: a different key from normal (E major) Check

Started to sit down and actually play with guitar sounds on my sims, Guitar Rig, Bias FX etc and create my own chains..Think the results are quite fat and big.
As usual for us now, wanted to merge electronic sounds with our rock tones, we think its working...

Had man flu over christmas so just smashed in the vocals, Hoping for that rock, smoke 60 a day kind of sound, even tho I dont.

Anyway enough gassing from me, Reach over to the volume knob and wind to 11. sit back and soak up some rock guitar loveliness.

Oh, and I put a video together to add to all the loveliness. Enjoy,

Video:

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
You know my inner fears
mountains of feelings behind your tears
we have so much more to give
i feel the look of your distaste
drop my head with such disgrace
we have so much more to give

SHES THE ONE - SHES GOT ME WRAPPED ROUND HER FINGER
SHES THE ONE - SHES GOT ME SHAKIN LIKE A SINNER
AND I KNOW THAT IF I TAKE HER LIKE A WINNER.......
SHES GOT HOOK ME LINE AND SINKER

Verse 2:
Versions of me, you have the choice
screaming out to hear my voice
Listen to the Echoes cut you deep
coz you're the air that fills my world
never said but still untold
let our love words never sleep

END CHORUS
NOW YOU KNOW YOU GOT ME WRAPPED ROUND YOUR FINGER
NOW YOU KNOW YOU GOT ME SHAKIN LIKE A SINNER
AND YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU TAKE HER ME A WINNER.......
YOU GOT HOOK ME LINE AND SINKER

Oh yes, this one rocks!! Rock song 101 so to speak.  Really dig the drums and vox and overall the mix is fab. Two nits/suggestions
- Think the bass lacking a little bottom end and a having a touch to much mid, think it actually cuts through a little to much.
- Sorry to say but I think the guitars deserve to be bigger and with a little more edge. Compared to the other parts (And esp the drums) they are a little "timid".
Just my $0.02 and down to taste for sure, overall a great song and delivery.
Rock on!  8)

Hi,
It's a great piece of rock! The drum sound is fat and drives the whole thing well. The voice is just perfect for this style. There's a real energy that I like  ;D

I also felt that the rhythm guitars could benefit from a fuller sound that goes well with the big sound of the drums and the rest. But still, that's my humble opinion  ;)

Yes guys, this one has a bag full of balls. Interesting to hear what you're doing with the guitar FX and I think the vocals benefit from the man flu plugin  :) I also like the subtle underlay of the electronic stuff which adds to the richness of the sound. It RAWKS guys  :)

Thanks guys for the mix critique and constructive comments.

This is what this arena is great for, I agree, upon reading the comments and going back to take a fresh listen. yeh totally, that low end is missing, addressed and will be remixed out. I dont have a sub, so I check this in my car, which does..although not the greatest place to check mixes.

The guitars, I struggled with them as the meat of them were right where the vocals sat and I didnt want too much bottom end or they would fight with the bass. Will go back and maybe tweak the tones.

Thanks again guys, Glad the hear the tune was rockin.

ps, Pomps, does that man flu rock vocal plug in comes as a VST, AAX and AU......pffffttftf. if so I am in.

Thanks again for the listens.

Loved it, a really great rocking track with a good verse and cracking chorus. Also  I cant believe the big fat guitar sound that you've achieved and how good your vocals sound considering your man flu. Great job.

Catchy as anything. Great drive, great job with the vocals in the circumstances too!

I have no problem with the bass taking over the low end (think The Jam, Green Day) though then maybe you need to consciously mix in that way. Works for me!

Oh yeah!! 8) like it 8) if you want your bass to poke through your guitars a bit put a compressor on the guitars and side chain it to the bass, adjust the compressor to taste...

great track mate :) 8)

Great vibe and wow those guitars are ace! Won’t attempt to join in the mix discussion - just chipping in to say I loved the sound. Great ending! Vox are great! You should embrace man flu more often!!

Hi,

Great big, bold sound smacks you round the chops from the off. I think you did a great job on the vocals -  very hard to sing this hard and stay in tune. This a a top tune with a great chorus and a lovely rock guitar solo. Professional quality sounds like a commercial piece of material to me.

@Cawproductions (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20938) - Really like this one , the stutter gtr start, LOVE that, so clean and punchy, pre Chorus hooky as hell, superb Vocal delivery, so subtle double tracking on the LVox.

Polished indeed, could re use the stutter hook in the outtro fade?

I'd personally lose the lead gtr fill @2:24, kind of distracts from the idea of diminuendo/piano, then the BANG mkes more of an impact, and maybe prune back on some of the improv Gtr fills, and replace them with more recognisable motifs from either the 'Hook Line and Sinker' vocal line, maybe?

+1 as @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) says...

super tight outtro.

Hi Guys an Gals.

Thanks for you peeps for taking time to listen and comment.
Lots of constructive stuff in there, Lots to learn for the next tune.

CPM: Yeh, the motif thing, great idea, defo remenbe that for future tracks,
Shadowfax: Thanks for the Bass sidechain tip, thats gunna get used next time, I have used the technique on vocals before but not for bass.

And to all those people that just wound up the volume and took a listen , Thanks again.

We are partial to a bit of guitar here n there.

I’ve listened to this song about 5-6 times.

Great production!

I thought the drums in particular are outstanding on this track. It seems very well balanced across the whole spectrum.

I very much liked the structure of the song and although it is a polished track, it also has a rawness to it that keeps the energy levels high.

Great solo leading in to the break and the final choruses.

Just excellent! Wouldn’t change a thing.

Thank you for sharing your music with me.

I can't add anything that hasn't already been said, but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed listening to this track. I think you've accomplished exactly what you set out to do, so kudos. Excellent job 8)

Catchy rock indeed.

If know some people have wanted more from the guitars but if I could get mine sounding half as good as this (given that mine are all samples, not bloody likely), I’d be a happy chappy.

One observation I would make, and this could be my headphones or ears that are at fault...
When the song was driving, I could feel the kick drum but I couldn’t hear it. Sharing frequency’s with the bass I think, maybe a bit more of the higher frequency’s on the kick needed to help it punch through or carving some of the bass out.

Good work nonetheless.
