Title: STEELY DAN students session
Post by: nooms on August 24, 2019, 03:39:34 PM
im a keen fan of steely dan and this song is a particular favourite so i risked everything and pressed play..
brilliant version of 'my old school' by a group of students.
fantastic young players & reading from charts ! took them a couple of hours..
i was only learning the chords to WildThing at their age !
enjoy

Might good stuff nooms. SD tracks can be tricksy to play and even harder to capture that Dan essence.

Lovely work, Berklee isn’t your run of the mill music college...some fine musicians there...I always look at those live studio recordings and look carefully ‘thats how many saxes/trumpets they used or how many female tracks to lay down...

Always admire guitarists who can read that well, only knew one a guy called Mike Eaves...and he was only 15 when we were in a band together ( i was 20) , he could play jazz like a pro, he had to lie about his age to play a studio session on radio 2’s jazz night slot. He was one of those that if you let him start a song he would say 1234 faster than i could play the number...

His dad was a pro jazz pianist and his brother was our drummer...his mum used to bring us wonderful burgers half way through our sessions....

Thanks Mike...
