I worked nights on Sunday and Monday then had a day off to catch up on sleep. I awoke this morning and this song demanded that it was written. Writing is such a cathartic process but man, it really makes us face up to the things that we try to hide from.
Didn't
Didn't mean to make you cry.
Didn't mean to paint the sky this shade of blue.
Didn't understand the pain.
Couldn't face it all again, yeah
that's the truth.
Driving through the countryside,
the CD played "your love has died; it's over."
The journey that our road has taken,
Lovers are now both forsaken; lost.
Didn't mean to steal your heart.
Didn't mean to blow the whole damned world apart.
Didn't wish upon a star
to admire it from afar
then watch it die.
I'm sorry that we couldn't make it, couldn't hold on, couldn't fake
It's over.....
It's over.....
It's over.

Great lyrics. Feels really honest and painful. Sorry you're going through a tough time. It looks like you're doing the best thing you can, and using the pain to create. Look forward to hearing this.

This is beautiful, Paul! Can feel the pain through your words.
Magnificent!

Absolutely stunning. And the lyric is simply demanding a melody. WOW. I can't say enough good things about this brilliant emotional expression.

Paul,
the muse is working well here. Has a resigned melanchic nature to it, which would sound great to a jazzier/blues treatment.
Structurally it fells like an A,B,A song and was wondering whether there's more of the 'didn't', I wanted Didn't mean to write this song..'
Anyway good luck with it.
