Title: All of us suffer for Love
Post by: PaulG on August 16, 2019, 04:10:59 PM
A song of Regrets & Mistakes. see the recording section I've posted a recording for feedback

ALL OF US SUFFER FOR LOVE

Every train I ride, every road I drive, every journey I'm thinking of you
Seasons run, snow to sun, I don't notice now you've gone
Can we just freeze time, pause, rewind, begin again
I know I was wrong, too late once you've gone, all of us suffer for love

I told no one that you had gone, pride led me to this fall,
Things were said that we both regret before you closed the door
I'm too easy to bruise, the boy with stones in his shoes, couldn't follow you
I know I was wrong, too late once you've gone, all of us suffer for love

It's oh so tough when you fall in love with a girl who has a wandering soul
She'll abandon her roots first sign of any roots, restless for the road
Planning her escape, I was too late to realise
For I know I was wrong, too late once you've gone, all of us suffer for love

But this heart will still beat I'll get back on my feet, scars will heal and fade
From time to time you'll slip back into my mind, I'll smile for those happy days
Wisdom comes with age, in time we'll reach the stage of forgiveness
I know I was wrong, too late once you've gone, all of us suffer for love

Every train I ride, road I drive, every journey I'm thinking of you
Seasons my run, snow to sun, I don't notice now you've gone.

I didn't "easily find a tune" for this as I read it, but that just means it needs a mildly complex tune.  It did eventually "sing" instead of just read, so it's a "melody ready" lyric.  LOVE the concept.  And it's totally true.  All of us DO "suffer for love."  Love without pain isn't love.  Love expresses itself through sacrifice, so there has to be pain involved if there is truly love involved.

I think this is an exceptional lyric.

Actually, I found it really easy to see a tune for this, probably because of the way I tend to write songs myself.

Love the lyrics. The only line I would possibly look at is this one:

"She'll abandon her roots first sign of any roots, restless for the road"

It's the roots/roots rhyme. I know it's not a total no-no to rhyme the same word but it just feels with the level of these lyrics that it comes across a little... lazy? Perhaps you could replace the second "roots" with "shoots"? That's just a quick idea and wouldn't really change the meaning of the line either. Just a thought.

Nice song though.
