Title: May SOTM (Contenders)
Post by: Sterix on June 08, 2019, 08:17:49 PM
I just want to say you're all a bunch of bastards!

Sorry, had to be said but I mean it in the nicest way possible. :D

You seriously made my job this month TOO HARD. I just couldn't narrow this down to five or six entries. I really couldn't. The level this month - you just kicked ass.

So I'm going to make this month a little different. I'm going to put up a number of entries and let YOU do the hard work! (mwah-ah-ah-ah!).

Please note: this is MAY only. I'm doing April (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=16662.0) separately.

Even now, there are probably (definitely!) some entries I've I should have included. My apologies to those.

Firstly, lets get with the runners and riders for May (voting info to follow). To your marks ladies and gentlemen.

Once again, apologies to anyone I missed out that deserved to be up there. I would be interested to hear if you think a particular song I've missed off should have been there (and why).

So anyway, now on to the voting.

PM me (@Sterix) scoring each of the above from 1 (were you on drugs when you included this song, Martin?) to 10 (I really can't live without this song in my life). You don't vote for your own song(s) but you must score ALL the other ones. It's not a top ten, it's scoring EACH SONG out of ten.

That's it. All you have to do.

In the event of a tie a tie it shall remain. I was going to throw in the "I get the deciding vote" malarky but I think if people think two or more songs are equally as good then who am I to argue the toss?

Once you've PMd me the votes, no changes to your scores will be allowed (barring EXTREME circumstances!). So double check your scores before you PM me!

I'm also going to forgo the usual "you have to vote to remain in the competition" ideal - merely because of the scope this time. Why make my job any harder than it has been? At least ONE participant from each entry must vote to remain in the competition.

Voting will be open until midnight Friday 28th June (UK time) and I'll post the results some time on the Saturday. Gives you plenty of time to vote.

Just remains for me to wish good luck to everyone and get voting.

{edit} Shadowfax's song has been removed for consideration due to lack of time to evaluate other entries.

Yo Sterix,thanks for the nomination.

I have voted after lots of listening. I'm hopeful to get a chance to listen again to the April songs, but life gets in the way, these days.

A mammoth task for hosting and listening.

Appreciate the work Sterix.  8)

Great job Sterix, and a hard one indeed. :) But I have a question in regards to forgoing the "you have to vote to remain in the competition" rule ???

Seems to me it would be to your advantage not to vote if you're one of the candidates, because you have to vote for songs other than your own  ???

Maybe I'm way off, but I just thought I'd bring it up  :) :)

@Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024) - Many thanks for the nomination, it's my first since I've been on the forum, I'm really grateful.

Thanks for doing 2 months.

Hi @Sterix (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22024), yeah cheers for the nomination.

I'm with Suzy above on the asking all nominees to vote thing. It's fairer that way, as a non voter could win by just a couple of votes - the deciding factor being simply that they didn't vote.

But it's up to you, as all the power is yours as our Great & Mighty Host of The Month!  ;D

Thanks again anyway.

I may will reactivate that rule over the weekend when I'm hopefully thinking a lot straighter.

{edit} I'm going to poke all the contestants in the ribs to make them aware.

CPM: really your first? Wow.

(Hopefully I haven't missed anybody).

After some feedback (and thought) on the matter the usual rule of having to vote to remain in the competition is being resumed. For those songs that have multiple participents, at least one of you needs to vote.

Please remember that voting for MAY means scoring ALL songs (except your own!).

Thanks from me too. I'll be sure to give all the entries a proper listen before voting. Given the high quality for the month, it'll be a pleasure to go through them again.

To vote, just PM me scores for ALL the nominated songs except your own. To PM me just click on the "speech" icon underneath my profile information on the left (if you hover over it, it will say Personal Message). Just title your message May SOTM (or April if you want to vote on those too - but that's a different topic and the scoring for those are top three in order).

Hi sterix,

Just seen the message in my inbox. Thanks for including a couple of our tracks,

So much good stuff on here now, how can you possibly choose.

But I have my list.
Good luck everyone.

Thank you for voting @CaliaMoko (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19928) and @Cawproductions (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20938) but please note you're not scoring a top ten but giving each song a rating out of ten (1 being basically terrible to 10 being nigh on perfect). ;)

Ahhh...well, I'll do my best. Ranking them from top to bottom is hard enough. Trying to figure out a scoring system in order to award points? Yikes! But at least that explains my confusion. Was I supposed to rank them all? Or just ten? Neither. Score them all. Okay. Got it....

Okay, I did it. I came up with a scoring system and I rated all the songs. I hope that works. It's done.

Scores are done just fine now, @CaliaMoko (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19928)  8)

So far only a few people have voted for May. Still plenty of time to go though.

I also thought it was a "pick your top 10", so I'm glad I wasn't ready to send. Done so now though, and scored properly. 1/10 for all songs to maximise my own chances (j/k). Seriously though, it's great the list was extended for May - several entries for which it would have been criminal not to include on the shortlist.

I have voted (thanks for the nom-Obama-nation!  :D :D)

I've updated the first post to clarify the scoring/rules.

So far, only five of the entries are technically still in the competition. There are still a number of folk who need to vote to keep their own hopes alive.

With a week of voting still to go less than half of the nominees have voted. Given the number I'll PM everyone who hasn't to remind them...

FYI... we've had an entry drop out due to time issues (not enough time to evaluate and rate other songs).

With only a few days remaining and a few contenders left to cast a vote, the unofficial count is EXTREMELY close at the top. And I mean "EXTREMELY", capital letters and all. ;)
