Title: My Recording Environment

Hi John

I use a free "imgur" account to upload images to (hidden from the public...so no clowns can comment their fascinating witticisms) and then use the links from there. It works fine...but I always think there must be a better way...but if nobody else has one they can share with us, I'm more than happy to post an explanation...

Love the guitar rack John...guessing that’s a bass next to the acoustic. I also couldn’t complete a great mix without a second opinion from a pair of furry ears! My dog never seems to tire even after my 32nd take at getting that lead break right.

I've just tried what works perfectly on other forums, but when I tried it here, the images were so huge it looked ridiculous so I have deleted the post.

What I did was:

Saved images to my desk top
Dragged the images into Imgur, which is a free image sharing site
Selected the images in Imgur one by one, selected the "direct link" option and "copy"
Copied that URL into the Insert Image icon here on this site

It worked but the size of the pics were so huge it made no sense.

It is clean because it is not used. Big difference.

Lol. This thread!
Maybe it's my old iPad but I couldn't see hardly any photos.
I'd have liked to have seen them.

I'm still convinced my studio setup is the worst, which is surprising considering how much my music dominates my thoughts generally.
I'm very gradually getting things together. As it is I seem to have the bare minimum.
Money is scarce.
I do have the fundamentals, which is talent and desire.

I've a handful of friends who are ready to help me out with mics but it usually doesn't work that way.
I don't want to surprise anyone with my studio antics, too much explanation involved, getting the other up to speed.
This takes me too far out of the zone.

Drugs have helped in the past, but too much drama, I'd rather spend time experimenting, discovering limitations with my voice and the equipment, getting things done, enjoying the experience.
Interruptions are terrible, even the vague likelihood of them are bad.

Aye, I need to get my studio together.

Yeah PJ's pics disappeared....they're back.....for now.

I think PaulAds suggestion of using Imgur might be better than Dropbox or Google Drive. Worked for The S.

You can resize your image by specifying a width when you post eg [/img.]

What a great looking setup Shadow. Awesome!!!!

I'm envious of that vocal booth. I simply don't have the space for it at home so early on I scrapped that thought, but I do miss working in one. Someday...

Looks really professional!!! Inspiring!  :D :D :D

Dayme that's nice Kev, cool setups all round tbf. Most jealous of The S so far though!

For some reason I never felt comfortable in my bedroom and after like 2 years of sleeping on the sofa decided to just ditch the bed and use the room as a studio.

Had plenty of good jams in there, but apart from a couple (marching band, something beautiful) still do most of recording slouched on the sofa. Something about the room just leaves me agitated, even when tidied :)

Looked a lot better when I first did it

fyi can resize images by adding a 'width'
Code: [Select]

Keep sharing, these are cool!

Really my recording env is my laptop and that is about it. I move from room to room to wherever I can work with a tiny audio interface.

I move the condenser to the kitchen when I need to do a vocal (it is the quietest place I can be for the neighbours). No tables, no extra screens, no prepared rooms.
I've done mixing on the commute, string arrangements on holiday.

A real troubadour producer :)

Tom, this makes me feel a whole lot better. Pity I can't get what you get but at least I know there's a chance....apart from you having a great voice and generally being a lot more capable than me in all areas!

My set up is also basic. Bet you've got a mic stand though. I bungee the mic to an artist's easel.

Good on yer @tboswell (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20223) Just goes to show what can be achieved these days with the amazing technology available. Like you say, you can arrange and mix literally anywhere
