Title: New Competition - The Spring Quest
Post by: Martinswede on February 11, 2019, 11:20:14 AM
The Spring Quest - co-hosted by @adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124)

Friends!

Today starts the new competition aptly named The Spring Quest.
This since it's not so much a competition putting one against the other,
but meant as a common effort to reach a common goal.
Maybe setting a longer project aside and just focus on crafting a song.
You are allowed to use any earlier unfinished material for your entry.

The Spring Quest doesn't have a fixed theme or a set of rules regarding
content but collaborations will have a head start on the score chart.
Basing your song around suggested theme 'exotic' is not a must but
might help you to get going with this project.

The Quest will run for six weeks ending on 31st of March. Post your entry in
'Feedback on Finished Songs' before said date.
Your competition entry will be not be counted by the rule of one song per two weeks,
so no worries you can keep posting songs for feedback as usual.
Remember to include collabs in the song post. One song per member but unlimited amount of members in a collab.

To make collaborations easier I've started a topic in 'Collaborations'
http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=16287.msg155099;topicseen#msg155099  (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=16287.msg155099;topicseen#msg155099)
as place to request collabs for this competition.

Please post a reply if you have any questions.

Good luck,
Martin

Cool.

I'm going to have a go at this...I've been pretty lazy of late....so hope to get my ass in gear.

It'd be great to see a few who rarely participate in the competitions to have a go too...

Why not take a step outside the comfort zone  :)

I estimate 11 1/2 minutes a day as the work load for this comp.
That gives you eight hours to spend on:

:-[ - Get going, or to paraphrase @PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) 'Get ass in gear'(1h)
 ??? - Writing (2.5h)
 :D - Communicating concerning collabs (.5h)
 :) - Arrangement(.5h)
 :'( - Getting stuck (.5h)
 ;D - Recording(1h)
;) - Coffee and snus/nicotine permitted by law in your country(1h)
 :-\ - Mixing (.5h)
 8) - Finishing and publishing (.5h)

Cheers,
Martin

Great stuff @Martinswede (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20851) and well done for as they say in many cliched circles "Running with it" You certainly have your analyticals sorted. Let's try and get all forum posters contributing to this competition as it's not so much a competition but an opportunity to work with other people on here that you might not have. It's all a bit of fun and the winners are the participants  :)

I’m happy to collaborate with someone. I’ll do either music, lyrics and vocals or a mix of both. Beware, the weirder it is the more I like it. PM me if interested.

Hi esteemed members!

I thought I'd pop in and remind you that there's still plenty of time left to submit an entry to the ongoing competition
The Spring Quest.

All the best,

Martin

Thanks for replying Pomps, you're in the lead, just going round the Melling Road, yes and over the Canal Turn.

But can he get over Beechers Brook still in pole position? It's a gripping tale! Where are the other horses, almost invisible so far!

(Can you tell I live 5 miles from Aintree Racecourse by the way?!)

I'm sure all the runners and riders are going to be right there at the starting line for the big race but need to ask the race organisers @Martinswede (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20851) @adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) What's going down guys ?  :)

 Ahh @Skub (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20061)  ;D .  didn't know you cared ;D .   Love you too darling xx ;)

I've definitely got two collabs for the comp now....with Martyn and Pomps......and a couple more 'out there'.
But I don't know if they'll be done in time ::) ::) .  Also, got a solo entry....

I've also got more BT's if anyone fancies having a crack at a top line.  They're pretty 'complete' musically, just need
 lyrics/vox/mix/production.  Tall order with just 10 days left I know ;D ;D .  Thought I'd offer though....

Hi fellas!

Sorry for the delay. Been a bit busy with a local project.
It sounds great that there are some stuff brewing. I've started recording my entry,
hopefully most of it will be done this week.

Adding a couple of weeks to the contest is fully acceptable to me. Time seems to fly at the moment
How do you feel about it @adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) ?

Martin

Ha ha ! The EU will have to agree to any requested extension  ;D

It's all gone a bit quiet... I think an extension makes sense in order to get more meaningful entries!

But we have Easter in there somewhere - should it be after that? So all in by 22nd April?

Yes! That sounds good.
I suggest all entries are allowed and encouraged to bump on April 22nd just to get the excitement up for the voting.

Well I just scurried to get my half-baked offering posted - now I come to find out I could have had 2 more weeks!
Ah well - now I can just put my feet up and watch myself fall to the bottom of the pack  ;D ;D

I have joined the joyful outpouring of hope and excitement that is The Spring Quest.
I have the perception folk are in danger of experiencing an outbreak of morale,so I thought I'd put a stop to all that and bring us all down.  :P

Track posted in Finished Songs as reqd.

Of course you will Adam  :) Great to see all these last minute entries popping up all over the place. There's one helluva lot of listening to do

I make it 16 entries - so far!

Excellent stuff everyone!

Loads of listening to be had :)

I had a couple of somewhat bizarre things that I started but never got to finish...so it's possible that a couple of strange tunes might present themselves somewhere down the line...

This competition's been great for me. I'm having my garage converted so I'm up to my neck in stuff...so it was lovely to even get one entry in. There are one or two collaborations on the go that I aim to get back on track with soon.

Oh my, that was a ton of listening and studying lyrics and whatever....

Thank you to the hosts for a fine job and my deepest apologies for not commenting on most (any? I'm not sure) of the songs. I plead extenuating circumstances and will do better eventually.
