Ok so this has been on my to do list for a while. Its about a imaginary 4 way conversation with Ed Sheeran, Marvin Gaye, his estates lawyers and my good self. I get it if its top line melody and lyrics but this is just plain silly and grasping..
Anyway hope you are enjoy this and look forward to your thoughts and comments

ts just a song ( what’s going on? )
So you own all the chords now
Or so the suits and moneymen say
I kinda of hope you’re up there, you’ve been good and I pray
That you’ve been blinded from this bullshit
Its driving me insane
I’d like to think you’d do it differently but I guess we’d never know
What’s being going on?
Its just a song
So please sing a along
What’s been going on?
Meanwhile the suits file the law suits
And Ed he gets a call
Divide or multiply? It just doesn’t add up
And what about the unknown and unnamed in the delta?
With guitar in hand, living hand to mouth
Sometimes life ain’t fair
What’s been going on?
Its just a song
So please sing along
What’s been going on?
I am a businessman, here to make some money
I’ve got assets to be leveraged
I’ve got outlays I’ve got to meet
Fancy foreign cars and private stock guitars
I’ve got families, a lifestyle I gotta keep
So if you tune into the radio
And listen to the latest hits
I can’t help but wonder which ones next upon your list?
They say that lawyers outnumber musicians
Well that’s pretty poor tune
You can do the maths anyway you like but please can you tell me?
What’s being going on?
Its just a song
So please sing a along
What’s been going on?
What’s been going on?
Its just plain wrong
Coz its just a song
What’s been going on?

Clever stuff Neil. Enjoyed reading the lyrics before listening. This one took off big time and just kept getting bigger and bigger. Loved the M8 in particular with the multiple harmonies. Guitar to die for. Excellent listen man :)

Very clever! Some amazing witty and subtle lyrics in there.

Really good song, with a lot going on if you will pardon the pun.
This has a wonderful anthem-like feel. The lyrics and vocals, in part, remind me of Roger Waters ( a la "Have A Cigar") and the chorus is fantasically catchy.
Also, love the fade out with the "covers" in the mix.
One minor suggestion on the lyrics: I would change "Meanwhile the suits file the law suits" to "Meanwhile the suits make their filings" to avoid repeating the word suits. (Also, a pun on the wording filings, which can mean waste material.)
Excellent job, thanks
Kevin

Hey @Neil C (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18856) , this a clever song idea and a fascinating subject actually. How come if it is so hard to make money out of songs these days, then Ed Sheeran is being sued for millions?! I must be doing it all wrong! And who used up all the chords anyway!
That aside, this song just made me smile, and I don't think smiling has been copyrighted yet! I liked this lyric set and how you've crafted it into something, especially the catchy chorus. Gently mesmeric throughout.
Funny stuff at the end too, with that Police interlude! Maybe the Gods of Music will now pay you millions so that The Police will have something to sue you for. ;)

Yo Neil.
As Ray Davies once said,'It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world'.
Life was more simple when Lyrics and melody were copyright, but an ever increasingly litigious society will always find ways to make money regardless of ethics.
Anyway. :D
Love the song Neil, right from the idea to the lush guitars. You went all David Gilmour on the vocals aroud 1.59...awesome stuff.

Hi Neil
Clever concept and storyline in this one.
As usual top drawer guitar work.
You stealin' from the police will get the police after you fo sho.
Would have liked more rhyming in the verses but That's down to person prefs isn't it?
Solid work ;D ;D

PompeyJazz, thanks for the feedback, delighted you liked it :-)
Realkev - cheers for the listen and comments
Kevin - cheers - the anthem like feel may come in part from the choice of chords for the chorus, which of course has been used by everybody from the start of song creation
MichaelA - smiling, catchy and funny - thanks thats enough for me
Skub, 'Love the song Neil, right from the idea to the lush guitars' re the layered vocals not heard enough of gilmour, I was thinking more Tom Petty..
Paul, stealing from the police :-) re non rhyming you should try it its both hard and quite liberating..
Rightly - 'top quality material' thank you sir

Really great lyrics Neil, even down to the subtle details like dropping in Sheeran's album titles and the play on words with 'suits'. Very good build to the track too and the middle 8 and guitar-lick embellishments are top drawer. Emphatic finish too.

If we all meet on stage and this sounds like one of those stage songs you do know you're going to have to make sure we get your chord flow right
I like the whole idea man 8)

Hey @Neil C (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18856) - great idea for a song.. Loved the lyrics and catchy chorus. The mix sounds great to me - great guitar work, sounds from the comments that that's the norm for you. Very impressive sound all in all.. Kudos.. Love the ending!
-
Brilliant idea and great lyrics too.
A really good song in its own right as well. Production is excellent.
Smiling as I type ;D
-
Hey Neil ;D . Great song mate. You make it seem so easy ;D
Very, very Kinks, especially those harmonies, so you'll probably be
hearing from their lawyers. Also, those guitar licks sound familiar ;D
I think their all mine ;D ;D
I wonder where Marvin stole his chords from.......
Loved it my friend....BIG smiles here ;D

Nice one.
This song reminds a bit of ''George Harrison - this song''.
Your song is more personal towards Sheeran
-
Lush guitar arrangements over a very catchy chorus here Neil...very nice. I see a bit more inventiveness in your melodic vocals over the chord structure here. The song also builds nicely up as it goes through...very pleasing to the ear. Nice topic as well...thanks for posting!

Hi Neil,
This is a strong piece of writing - very reminiscent of Ray Davies. Clever lyrics, beautiful playing and arrangement complimented by a good, strong melody. Standard is going up all the time.
