Hey all,
As we all agree now, we've had quite enough of experts telling us how things really are.
Let's ignore them all and listen to something reassuring agreeable in our echo chambers.
Tom.
------------------
TYRANNY OF BELIEF
(T J Boswell)
It’s the last thing that you say before you leave
“I don’t know, but that’s just what I believe”
And there's nothing anyone can say
Your mind is closed, you ain’t gonna sway
The best and brightest they could spend a millions years
Finding proof to fall upon your deaf ears
You just tune out each dissenting voice
Cling to your rock, like it’s the only choice
You make it all sound so simple
Guess certainty brings you relief
And so the truth is trampled hard underneath
The tyranny of belief
All those comforts you enjoy, they came from
People proving they were right, and accepting they were wrong
You must stand upon the higher ground
Open up your eyes and look around
See this world so full of wonder
So full of mystery
Always something to discover if you really want to see
Its bewildering, a total mess
So beautiful because it’s so complex
You make it all sound so simple
Guess certainty brings you relief
And so the truth is trampled hard underneath
The tyranny of belief
Did I say something that caused you some offence
Well there’s nothing I can say in my defence
There’s just wisdom that I won’t conceal
it really doesn’t care the way you feel
I know you feel
That it should all be so simple
Guess certainty brings you relief
And so the truth get trampled hard underneath
The tyranny of belief

No nits today. I'm loving what you say. And sing. It has a certain ring. That's all from me. ;D

Another top quality song from you @tboswell (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20223) "You make it all sound so simple" I really like the lyrics and the whole piece is so well put together. Excellent

Lovely song Tom ;D ;D . The vocals are outstanding...which is a given with you ;D ;D Don't think I've ever heard a
more delicate and naked production from you before..it's just gorgeous. The lyrics are a work of art my friend. I can
really identify with all of it. There are so many great lines, my favourite is ; 'Finding proof to fall upon your deaf ears.
You just tune out each dissenting voice'. A perfect description of all that 'selective' hearing you get in a
relationship that's on the rocks........been there ::) ::) . Love the tasteful use of †he slide guitar....is that you ?? Didn't know
you was a country boy ;D ;D
Anyway, just loved this mate, a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Emotional, engaging, entertaining... E's are good ;D ;D

I love this, Tom.
Really intelligent, classy writing, playing, singing and production. A cut above.
Slide guitar is a pet hate of mine...so i knocked 1 point off for that...thus giving you a total score of just 99/100 :)

Hey Tom.
A classy, proper country flavoured song with no cheese topping. 8)
Clever lyrics join together with a well arranged song, then superbly played.
This wouldn't be an easy song to sing, but you carry it with confidence and aplomb.
Love the little pedal steel and slide touches, subtle and work so well. (Don't listen to PaulAds :D)
Just lovely. :)

Really superb lyrics. They land a profound point. I like the way they could be read as being about politics, or religion, or relationships, or even what to have for dinner... it’s deep but not too heavy handed. These lines in particular stuck out to me:
Its bewildering, a total mess
So beautiful because it’s so complex
Delivery and recording great too. Nowt I would change.

Great lyrics well sung. A nice song well deserved. Nothing to criticise.

Very easy on the ears, that delicate solo interlude just drifts in and out so effortlessly, after a vocal performance that easily holds your attention as you tell your tale.
Most expert in your genre where well written lyrics, flowing instrumentation and solid vocals are the keys to success. And you have them! ;)

Hi,
This is thoughtful, intelligent songwriting. I liked the chord progression - perfectly matched the melody but just kept you on your toes. Beautifully sung, a strong basic theme and, most importantly of all, PEDAL STEEL! and is that a dobro?
Lovely percussion and I like the way the instruments support but don't get in the way of the song.
It's a belter.

Tom,
Sights set high and you hot the bullseye.
Really enjoyed the stripped soulful country arrangement with pedal providing a suitable platform for your fabulous voice and the lyrics.
And then we get the dobro, what else could I ask for? :-)
And the strings and organ too.
Achingly good.
:) :)

Well this one is really easy on the ears Tom :) Everything just flows along so effortlessly, but at the same time challenges me to think more deeply.
The lyrics are profound and beautifully written, and of course your vocals are amazing. So well produced. Loved every minute :)

This is tremendous. I love how the song just builds - some light percussion, then more piano..great work.

I started listening thinking, okay niiice vocal.
I ended listening thinking, wow, that's good!
It's actually a great vocal, well sung, lovely clarity.
Nice rising hook in I think the second line of the chorus.
Really well put together track without any unnecessary bells and whistles.
The ONLY thing I might suggest altering is the line starting cling to your rock, which felt ever so slightly squeezed in. Maybe clinging on would flow better?
Anyway, great stuff Tom.
