Title: Thick as Thieves (AtticVibes and LostBoy)
Post by: Cawproductions on November 24, 2018, 07:56:56 PM
Hi all.
(EDITED) this is now the remastered version
Recently we sent a backing track we had to @LostBoy (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20481)  and he worked his magic and wrote some top class lyrics and also dropped a smooth Leo style vocal.
Really great guy to work with and a great collab, Enjoyed making this track with Leo and hope you guys enjoy it too.

As always, hit the volume up to 11.

Lyrics are as follows:
Thick as thieves

Verse 1.

Running with the wolves

Catching fire on Sunday

Giving up the ghost on that miracle highway.
Tired of being told that all we did was wrong
Well we were living fast

The bold and reckless

Didn't give a damn about the consequences
All we ever wanted was to have some fun Yeah.

Pre Chorus.

You can't fight fire with holy water Angels learn to fall

Chorus.

Thick as thieves we'd ride

We were never looking back
Burning up a one way track

And every single night

We'd rock the lions den

And let the wildlife in

We were thick as thieves back then.

Verse 2.

Caught messing around in that beat up Honda
Zoe got it worst she was the Bishops daughter
Everybody tryin to save us from ourselves Yeah.

Pre Chorus.

You can't fight fire with holy water Angels learn to fall...Thick as thieves.

Bridge.

Like a sword in a stone

Didn't know where we belonged

but we were gonna find our own way honey.

We were high we were low, got it right, we got it wrong, it didn't matter, it was our show baby.

Like a sword in a stone

Didn't know where we belonged

We took the wheel and then

We drove them crazy

We were high, we were low, we got it right We got it wrong, it didn't matter we were gonna do it our way...

Pre chorus.

You can't fight fire with holy water Angels learn to fall

Chorus.

Thick as thieves we'd ride
We were never looking back
Burning up the one way track
And every single night

We'd rock the lions den
Cos truth was paper thin

We were thick as thieves back then.

Well, I knew this would be good considering who is involved. It's a top quality piece. Leo's vocals as always are sensational and the boys at @Cawproductions (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20938) have pulled out all the stops. Great work lads  :)

What a great rocking track this is  ;D
Super vocals Leo (and harmonies!)
I enjoyed the guitar work - nice dirty tone on it as well'
Good hook too - can't find a nit - just can't

Good work fellas

Nice stuff all round - got everything going for it - Good production and a Pro sounding voice makes all the difference.
This is probably the level of professionalism you need to really promote your songs if you want to stand any chance of moving away from being a bedroom songwriter....you boys stand a chance I think.

Blimey, I think the stars aligned here. Love the rockier Lostboy we get here! And that restless lead guitar is a perfect complement. In fact it’s all a perfect complement.

That chorus is simple but grabbing. And I think I will never forget the Honda/daughter line!

Loved it!

Cracking tune! Brilliant vocal from Leo...what a singer!

Approached with a slight degree of trepidation as "thick as thieves" is one of my favourite Jam songs...but this is definitely all your own and something to be proud of.

If I had to nitpick, on first listen, I thought there could have been a little more bass guitar in the mix? But take that with a pinch of sodium chloride...the production on this is way beyond anything I could do  :)

I could listen to the "Thick as thieves we'd ride" all night...I'd have maybe tried to shoehorn that in there more often somehow...

For my ears this is a little too conventional and I don't usually warm to this genre, well we're all different I know! But even I can recognise that this is a highly polished and technically excellent production, arrangement and vocal masterclass. A very good collaboration all round and sounds radio ready pro. Solid rock lyrics too, powerful and evocative.

I must thank Leo for absolutely smashing the vocals on this track, He wrote some amazing lyrics and delivered a top Notch vocal too, as always.

Myself and Mike had the backing track completed but after the vocals went in we made a few changes.

Thanks for the great comments regarding our playing and recording/mixing efforts, They do mean a lot to us and we take on board everyones comments with a view to improve our music.

Oh for gods sake, can't you guys just come out with something that's not very good for a change?!

I'm not reviewing this, I refuse.

Okay, winning combination, good song and production, sickeningly good lyrics blah blah :'(

That's all you're getting.

Yodasdad  :D

@Cawproductions (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20938) @LostBoy (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20481) - what a great song. Lyrics wise, I wish I'd come up with some of the rhyming combos - reckless/consequences and Honda/daughter being two of my favourites.

The song itself reminded me of a Bryan Adams type of number. It is really well played and the vocals are spot on. The chorus is very catchy. Although the mix and production is good, I felt that the bottom end could have done with a boost, and for example, I was struggling to hear the kick poking through the mix, but that might be my new headphones, not sure.

Really top notch stuff, I loved it.

Hi guys, nice recording sounded great. Had an American AOR feel for me a la Eagles/BTO type thing. Not really in my musical orbit, but I can still hear the quality of the playing and singing. Nice harmonies too.
Good stuff!
Cheers

Hi and a big thank you to everyone, especially to Leo who took one of our old tracks and turned it into a real smasher of a song, thanks for all the kind comments and thanks from me to everyone who mentioned the guitar. @Yodasdad (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19208) , very sorry, on the next one we will do a custom mix just for you and I'll throw in a few bum notes.  :).

Cheers, Mikey

Hi Guys,

I'm with Yodasdad. Depressingly good to those of us who lack your talents and skills. I agree with the comments about Bryan Adams and The Eagles and frankly this would sit well on any of their albums.

Very slick, commercial and err.....perfect.

Fab stuff guys! Really enjoyed the song, right up my alley. Solid backing, great vox and a catchy chorus.. My only complaint would be the mix. To me the vocals are way too up front, not sure if it's a level balance issue or something else but it just don't 'gel'. Sort of a backing track with a vocal track on top instead of a cohesive piece if that makes any sense? Still bloody good though :-)

Hi Guys,

@montydog (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18653) Thanks dude, Glad you liked it, Thanks for the listen, Leo has a super smooth vocal...

@Jambrains (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19875) I hear ya, Vocals are a bit upfront and have been troubling me also, I have been working on a remix/master to correct this. Thanks for the heads up. Great to hear how it translates across other systems.

Thanks Guys

Hi @montydog (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18653) , don't do yourself down mate, there's no shortage of talent from your corner, maybe we ought to get together and do some folk/rock ala steeleye span, I'll look out for you next time I drive through Totnes.

Cheers, Mikey

Damn have not been here in a while, was gonna pass by but had to say something about this one
very very polished and totally like the vibe going on, only tiny tiny snitch I thought the vocals for me were a bit too loud
