Hi all.
So heres how the story goes.
This is what happens when you have a backing track that you don't know what to do with and you send it to @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269).
Not only does he write some top notch blues lyrics but delivers a top vocal performance to go with it, add a bit of AtticVibes sauce and some Cawproductions trickery and heres the result.
Myself and @mikey are pretty impressed with the outcome of this and hope you guys are too.
Grab a beer from the fridge, sit back and chill to sounds of the pompster.
Production and engineering: Cawproductions/AtticVibes
Vocal and Lyrics: @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269)
V1:
Ive been thinking of that fateful day
that fateful day when you went away
Baby I've been trying
to keep myself from crying
over you.
V2:
Been together for so many years
bitter sweet memories, Laughter and tears
Baby I am dying
Cant get used to to living
all alone
Middle 8:
When you say
you've found somebody else
I'm so use to keeping you all to myself
Instrumental.
V3:
Come back baby, come back to our home
Don’t want to spend my life alone
Baby no more lying
want to spend my whole life
Loving you.

Top notch on all levels!!
Definitely a grab a beer, sit back and chill type of song ;)
Love this!
-
Oh yeah, very nice. I really like this song style, which makes it easy to love the song. I did notice one thing I think could be improved. The phrase "fateful day" seems too predictable. The song sounds like a guy wallowing in his despair, so maybe you could use something like that?? For instance...
I've been wallowing in my grief all day
In mourning ever since you went away
Is an example of something that might work. Just a thought.
Mostly, though, I think it's great and I think I'll go listen again....

(I miss my collaborations with PJ he is great to work with)

Hi all.
Thanks for taking time to give our track a listen and review
@CaliaMoko (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19928) Thanks Vikki, Will pass the info onto Pompey, I guess he was trying to keep the lines rolling off the tongue and in flow with the blues vibe.
@Morefrog Jones (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20200) really great comment, We try to get out mixes and production as close to radio ready and commercial as we can so that a fine compliment. Thank you.
And yes @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) is a super easy guy to work with..Top Bloke.
@Mutrins (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20583) Thank you, really pleased you liked the vibe.
Cheers
Andy

This is sublime. The guitar tone is like ice cream to my ears.
-
Wow that @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) fella is quite prolific isn't he? ;D
Great vocal!! Well great everything really. I'm always intrigued by collaborations like this when a track inspires the vocal / vocal melody! This works really well - all the playing is top notch and it just knits together beautifully!
Loved it!
-
Well done. All. There's nothing not to like about this one. Pomps vocal delivery is perfect on this. The guitar is soooo oooo sweet. Mix is spot on. Song is catchy. Fine listen on a sat morning.
-
This feels like a Motown hit. You guys did a great job. Excellent singing and playing. Love the solo. I think you could go push it even further with some background harmonies, but it's great as it is.

Top collaboration guys!! Very nice all around. :D :D
-
Wow, very soulful singing - hard for white guys to achieve I think without it sounding like cultural misappropriation. But you've nailed it here I think - in the vein of maybe Mick Hucknall or Paul Young who have walked this same territory.
Really nice mellow song with memorable hooks and nice guitar embellishments. Just a cool listen, cheers! Worthwhile collab for sure! ;)
-
Thanks for the kind comments guys, particularly to the people who were kind enough the mention the guitar, Pompey is a totally cool guy to work with, hopefully we will do more with him in the future,
Cheers, Mikey

A big Thank You to Mikey and Andy at @Cawproductions (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20938) for letting me have a crack at some vocals on this one. Hugely enjoyable and great guys to work with :)
-
Whato - Just loved this song, I think the best vocal delivery from you @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) - suits the song really well, just one thing didn't sit well in my ears...the lead guitar fills through out, maybe do a remix without them, replace it maybe with a little hammond.
Hope this helps

Oh boy, are we in safe hands here. With the personnel behind this, it had to be good and it is. Lovely, detailed and clean sound. Superb guitar playing, heart on the sleeve vocals. Bleeding excellent collab as I would expect.

Thanks for the listen, great you liked it, I think @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) nailed the style this time.
@cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308)
Ha, If only we could play a hammond.......Cheers for listening
Great result in the end,

Yo y'all.
This is one of those songs I thought I'd commented on ages ago...but obviously I didn't. ???
Anyway,enough of my senior moments.
Pomps does this style so well,I reckon he shares blood with Mr.Lennon.
Good job from Andy and Mikey to nail it all together. 8)

Many thanks there Mr @Skub (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20061)
Yeh for sure the pompster rocked this one.
Thanks for the production big up too. Means a lot to hear that the mix came across well.
Also thanks again to all who gave it a listen and comment
Where to next I wonder?
-
Sounds absolutely fab guys! Great performance and mix, class all the way through. Can't really add anything constructive. Well, I'd drop the brass as it did not work for me at all but then again it's way back in the mix so it did not disturbed too much. Once again, well done guys!
-
Hi Jambrains
Thanks for taking a listen and commenting, The Brass is a marmite thing, we tried to keep the genre true and felt a bit of brass was the way. Its tucked back as a bed just to pad out the midrange.
Cheers

Yeah, great production and real easy on the ear. A classic song, well written and recorded, with some super guitar licks. Nothing else to say other than well done guys.
-
Thanks @tfz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22144)
The @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) helped get the authentic sound we were looking for.
Thanks for the listen.

Fab collab guys. reckon that's the best vocal I've heard from John and was that Clapton on the guitar solo..sounded great..
best, Kevin :)
-
Hi guys, nice work, a touch of Oh Darling from Abbey Road, but with John singing instead of Paul. Great production and authentic sound.
Nice one!
Cheers

Hi all,
@shadowfax (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20024) yes Johns vocal really suited this track and he nailed the style and vocal tone. we were super chuffed with the result. Great guy too.
@Jamie (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19125) Not heard the Oh darling track but will google in a mo, Thanks for the authentic sound comment, it was a goal of ours to try and get this sounding a bit vintage.
Thanks again guys.

Yessir, PJ knocks it out the park with the vocal on this one.
It made me think of the film "The Commitments".
A bit like CPM I found the lead guitar licks a little distracting sometimes but maybe they just need to sit slightly further back in the mix, I think the song does need them.
Loved the meld of instruments in this and the measured unhurried pace. I could picture you all up on stage in some sweaty blues club playing this at around 2:30 in the morning. Felt authentic.
-
I would probably be just getting up at 02:30 in the morning Paul ;D
-
At 2:30 in the morning I'd have already been in bed for hours
Mikey
-
You have achieved a perfect classic, easy and pleasant to listen and very catchy.
Congratulations
-
Yeah, very cool relaxed feel on this one.I like this style so much. For doing some nitpicking, I don't like the doubling of the voice but may this is only me.
Very good collab, congrats. :)
-
Hey, I like the song, good strong melody. I think the guitar could be played a but more organic with some vibrato, and more dynamics.
