Title: How clean are your ears? I really need to know etc.
Post by: cowparsleyman on May 11, 2018, 12:32:58 PM
This is an off the wall subject but one I've often thought about.

I keep the inside of my ears very clean, cotton buds and all (I know it's dangerous, and not to be recommended) as I want to be sure that I'm capturing everything as it is, and have a repeatability to the sounds I'm hearing from my equipment.

Just wondered if anyone else does this?

Hope you got the BeeGees gag in the title

I do take particular care with my ears as the wax can build up with lots of In Ear Monitor / Headphone use

I want to tell you off about the cotton bud  >:(

**Insert finger wagging emoticon**

You could easily do some real damage!

By far the best ear cleansing product I have used is the OTEX "bulb"

https://www.naturesbest.co.uk/pharmacy/ear-care/otex-express-combi-pack-10ml/?msclkid=a0e3d8e790b91b8837c882121b327749&gclid=CPD60cTT_doCFQgBGwodBWYBAw&gclsrc=ds

You should use the drops first to soften the wax and then use the bulb to gently syringe your ears - but I often use it without the wax and just warm water

I consider myself off told, but you'll have to speak up a bit... :)

I'm glad to hear  (pardon the pun) that I'm not the only one that does this. I normally do it after a shower when the heat softens it.

I'll check out the bulb, I'm curious.

I think that won't be the last of the wise cracks....

I use cotton buds on sticks all the time. I find if you wet them first (I pop them in my mouth first) I've never had a problem with them. even cheap ones since I'm a pauper and they're all I can afford.

Of course, I used to work in a cotton mill so my hearing is affected anyway. Plus I suffer from tinnitus so it's not like it can do much more damage to my ears than I'm already "hearing".

I also use my the ends of my glasses when I don't have cotton buds available. Though usually only when my ears are itching...

Seriously guys, don’t put hard objects in your ears, please! Would you put them in your eyes? Nose?! Water is actually really good. Oxegenated water if needed will dissolve anything that needs it.

You REALLY shouldn't put anything deep in to your ear - you could very easily push the cotton bud, or a lump of wax, in to - or through - your ear drum

There are much better, and safer, options nowadays

LOL! Extra oxigenated. (Proper name hydrogen peroxide...) Comes in weak acidic solutions (6% or so...)
