Neil and I did a couple of very enjoyable collabs last year so when Neil suggested another I was only too happy to jump in. Neil suggested that we did something funky and I suggested it should be dirty, dirty funk, so the title was born.
Lyrics wise, I kicked off the first verse and Neil did the rest
Musically, we both contributed to the melody and chord structure.
Neil is on lead vocals, guitar, bass, drums
I'm on guitar, M8 vocs, brass, synth, samples and mixing
The brass was a particularly interesting challenge and I took a lot of time on it. Not perfect for sure but it was a great experiment with midi brass
Hope you enjoy
John & Neil
V1
My head is full of rhythm
It's spinning like I'm drunk
I feel so intoxicated
By your dirty, dirty funk.....
V2
I'm begging darling please
You know I ain't no punk
You got me on my knees
For your dirty, dirty funk
Chorus
Holed beneath the surface
You know that I'm sunk
Coz all I really need is
Your dirty dirty funk
M8
When I say its dirty, man its really mean
its elastic, its orgastic - and its lean
in another context you'd say its bordering on obscene
When I say its dirty - its filthy
you know what I mean
v3
hear the rhythm down the street
fill your booty in my trunk
shake my arse and tap my feet
I just love your dirty filthy funk

Now that had me dancin' round the kitchen. Funking brilliant. Really catchy from the off; and the change sections kept things moving along nicely. Really well observed and executed. Great work.

Love this, its a nice old style funky backing, I'm racking my brains to try and remember who Neils vocal reminds me of, and the guitar solos are great, they sound out of place in this style of track, but they are so crazy that they work.
Keep it up guys, Mikey

You dirty funkers!
Everything sounding really good here - love that rhythm guitar sound, bass, the deep BVs, that sax at the end, the guitar solo (of course). You really pull the sound off.
I think I might have gone for group BVs in the "holed beneath the surface" part, might just give a smoother feel.
You set yourself a lyrical challenge looking for funk rhymes - and that also worked really well for me - interesting enough without pushing it too far!
-
Excellent good-time track gents. Loved it, even the details like the panning on the guitars. The brass was pretty darn authentic too, and the main vocal and BVs gel really well.
Thanks for teaching me the word "orgastic" too. No crits for me, this was a hole in one.

It's too safe and clean sounding. I wanted all hell to break loose, and it didn't. That's what I was expecting and hoping for from the lyrics. Something really dirty and funky. So this didn't really work for me, but probably I'm just weird. Haha. Hope that's okay, guys.

Hi Guys,
Boom, great track, Ohhhhh that bass.
You guys did a great job on the vocals, production and delivery too.
Loving the solo too,
Great job all round guys, some quality stuff coming out of here at the mo.

Yo John and Neil.
A brill collab,right here.
John's arrangement of horns and stuff matches well with Neil's input. Your two voices work amazingly well together too, great contrast. Does this mean you are engaged...and...does Bin know? :o :D
A bouncy,impudent little offering,to be sure. 8)

Hi guys,
This is true collab - input from both on the song and the music. First off - that bass playing is pro level - it gives a real rock to build the rhythm on. Another highlight is the horn arrangement - fabulous. It's a shame that neither of you are black guys from Memphis to give this a real gritty vocal to go with the music but otherwise it's a very impressive track and an impressive collection of words that rhyme with funk!
Great stuff.

Too cool for school guys - great beat and an enjoyable listen.

Damn...clicked the reply button to type whilst listening and the music stopped...schoolboy error on my part.
Anyway...I remember this from listening as soon as it was posted...I thought it was great from the off. Bass is big and meaty and the guitars are super. Great and memorable hook. Both vocals are excellent too...it's like two established artists getting together to have some fun (which is kind of what it is in reality)
Mission accomplished. Very accomplished ::)

Dirty dirty funk! A song review in a title ;D
Great listen both :) Very enjoyable, great bass line, guitars, vocals etc. And all smashed together smoothly.

Hi guys, nice work, very authentic sound, I was expecting Stevie W to start singing after the intro. Neil, your vocals are getting better and better, what's the secret?Nice production with some great guitar licks and a very sympathetic bass line.
Good stuff.
Cheers

Pompey, very accomplished brass, a lot of work in there, a little busy at times, but very very nice indeed.
A few have commented on the bass guitar, tasty, and always difficult to get right in a mix.
It kind of reminded me of Black Magic Woman meets Earth Wind and Fire.

Good hook and there's no farting around before we land on it ;D
Lots to like here - bass, vox, and the guitars - oh the funkin' guitars!
Harms are a bit out of sync with the lead vox here and there but just adds to the live feel.
Good collab - my thumbs R up this side of the pond :D

Great job you dirty dirty hunks! Haha! Lots to love here, particularly love the brass, nothing wrong with midi when it’s done right. Awesome stuff!
