Around this time last year I bought one of those "build yourself a telecaster" kits as I thought that I might have a bit more time on my hands. Unfortunately not but I did complete the project and with some excellent advice from @Skub (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20061) changed the bridge. I've also replaced the top nut with a bone one and pissed about with the action like crazy but the funny thing is that I'm really enjoying playing this guitar now. Even more than some of my better guitars. Any experiences?

Something I’d love to be able to do, John...but I’m still struggling with the Airfix Spitfire I got off my Auntie when I was 11 :P

Yes. The pilots head never quite left your finger. And that is some quote :)

Hi John
Not a subject I know anything about but I can imagine it's hugely satisfying to have put it together and have it playing well. Is it relatively cheap to build? How long did it take all told? Would be great to see a picture.

I built a beautiful black Frankenstrat. I basically ordered all American parts from the states and put the guitar together, including soldering the pups. It played like a dream and served me well for years in my band The Vanity Rules, for both live work and recording the studio album that we made. I then sold it. Shame on me for doing so. It was an amazing guitar. Probably because the parts were top quality.

It took me about a month on and off. Sure, I made mistakes but it only cost about 100 quid and a great learning exercise.

Looks great, and aching to be given some wellie! 100 quid for a Fender Tele, that's amazing!
-
It's not a Fender but I got the decals anyway ;D
-
BTW - This track is exclusively with that guitar.......
-
Wow. I couldn't even build an "air guitar"! :o

Well done Pompey J. I have zero experience of this but a mate of mine in Brighton in a luthier. I could sit and listen to him all night talking about the details of what makes a great guitar. Immense respect for anyone who can actually do it.

Yeah...hats off to you, John...that tele looks fab!

And most of my wife's clothes are now tainted by the red spray paint. Beware! !!

I hear ya John.
The two guitars I use the most are home built partscasters.
That T style looks well cool,btw. 8)

Cool!
I've never built a guitar, just worked with the electronics. Caps, pots, pups and stompboxes.
A bit fun but I guess wood is more sensual.
