Title: Let Go, Your Ego!
Post by: mickyplankton on February 16, 2018, 08:37:36 PM
Hi All,

Heres a brand new song for the weekend.

Its notable in that its our first autobiographical song and Its all about the joys of playing in a COVERS BAND!
Theres lots of references in here to some of our cover versions and although the music and lyrics are original, you will note the style is very reminiscent of our heroes. Namely the Stooges, Ramones, Sabbath, Clash etal.

Play LOUD for maximum enjoyment!

**Edited by Boydie to use the SOUNDCLOUD embedding feature**

6 guys in band for kicks, what could possibly go wrong?
Theres singers, guitars, bass and sticks and everyone just gets along
Spend our money on new gear . we gonna make it big this year …
we got a great rock vibe, we cover Keep yourself Alive, we have no fear.

hang on to your ego? No let it go.

whens the next rehearsal, who has booked the studio?
Whos turn is it to get the beers, who is playing romeo?
What songs shall we play tonight? Faster, louder keep it tight .
We will start with Into the Fire we will finish with Iggy and his Stooges, what a night!

The venue is the fiddlers Elbow where we play our first real gig
We even get our own soundman, we support a band called Face Fuck Pig
No time for a sound check, forgot the tuner what the heck.
Road Runner once roadrunner twice. 15 people go wild, weve no regrets!

Yeah - This was great Micky - Real live feel vibe and bags of attitude. Can hear all of the influences you mention plus some others as well. Can imagine this going down a storm live. Top stuff guys  :)

Really good - so much energy - I can imagine it live - with those down the front going wild , had a really good old fashioned 70s 80s feel about it

Really like this .... takes me back to my punk-loving days! Definitely hear early Clash in the rhythm section, nice job!

I find the lyrics a bit too clumped together, ie, not enough time/space to absorb them. Otherwise, well, it's rock n roll, init?

Yo Micky.

It's an 'in yer face' punky choon as raw as a raw thing!

Shades of early Mott the Hoople there,I'm hearing Ian Hunter in your voice.

The lyrics are a laugh and paint a very vivd picture of where we all have been at some stage, love it.  :D

The only thing I'd watch,is to leave a bar on your DAW at the start,so the first chords don't get partially chopped in the intro.

Nothing earth-shaking about this one - apart from shaking the earth with good times. Sounds great and the fun is infectious. Love the Romeo and 15 people lines. Sounds like a band I'd be happy to go and see. Or be in...

Hi,

Your list of influences didn't bode well. I am not a fan of any of those bands (just the opposite in fact) so I wasn't expecting to like this and....I didn't, really. Skub is right about the Ian Hunter thing though - dead ringer with a little bit of Tom Petty thrown in. It's not bad and you guys all play well but it just isn't my thing. It has energy and I get the references to others and to your history but I can't change the ears of a lifetime.

Totally fun. Made me smile. I know just what I'd wear to your show. Motorcycle jacket and Chuck Taylors. Yeah. Love it.

Edit, there'd be some jeans too. Haha.

Mickey, hold on a moment, these red leather drainpipes are a little tight, and where does one pin that bumflap?

Absolutely BRILLIANT, I love this song, has such energy, and clever guitar sound, really like the vocals, both the way you sing and the lyrics, a stunning song.

Thank you for making my Saturday evening.

...now where does my wife keep the saftey pins....

Great sound, hello Joe Strummer is back! All you really needed were the ah-ah harmonies over the chorus to complete the picture. The lyrics were amusing, great topic, and the energy in the song is relentless. Just a great big enjoyable listen really!  ;D

Hey everyone thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it. Montydog, thanks once again for being so honest. Can't please everyone that's to be expected. I appreciate you don't like my influences and I have to admit, your songwriting doesn't seem to suffer from bypassing the punk rock era. Absolutely loved your song when I heard it today. Cheers Micky

Totally my kind of thing, Micky..really enjoyed it!

I missed most of February what with doing FAWM...but I tried to dig a few out that I wanted to comment on...this was one.

Great stuff!

I'll second that.

Not really my kind of thing these days and confess I voted for Neil in SOTM but this was 2nd choice. Has a raw honest energy and is more appealing than a lot of the more polished stuff on here. Good hookline for this kind of song nicely delivered.

Lyric rhythm/vocal delivery (don't know the technical term) lovely and tight at first.....got a bit looser later but first verse excellent.

My fave of yours I've heard so far.

So, Feb SOTM runner-up for me!

Excellent lively feel about this one, taking me back to noisy gigs I played back in day.

If I had any advice it would be to dirty up the bass and drums a bit. If you add to distortion to the bass and drums it will blend better with the guitars and feel "liver" if you know what I mean.
Definitely worth playing about with to see if you like the effect.

Great high-energy stuff with hint of nostalgia (surely nostalgia isn't punk?!)

Tom.

Not totally my thing, but I actually quite liked this track :) like others have said, it has a raw energy that grabs you by the 'hand' and makes you want to get up and dance :o I love the line "hang on to your ego? No let it go"...that's a classic if you've ever played in a band  ;D ;D
I'd like to have heard a little more dynamic wise, like take it right down for a few lines, and then bring it back to full on  :o Nice job round  :)
