Things like this are one of the reasons that I contribute to my local NPR station.
I LOVE the Tiny Desk Concerts.
There are a ton of these available on YouTube... lots of different artists. Super cool.

Wow - this is great! Can't believe I've never heard Randy Newman's songs before (only his film scores).

He's a great writer - music and lyrics. There's much here to study. Thanks for sharing mr nooms :)

I envy some of you for only now have discovered Randy Newman!!!

He is a songwriter of class, musically as well as lyrically. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but even so he's well worth to listen to and study if you want to become a better writer.

Thanks for sharing! Great stuff!

Peter

Oh, he is the consummate songwriter's songwriter.
Some folks aren't that into his voice and for you, I recommend Harry Nilsson's album:
Nilsson Sings Newman

Exactly what it sounds like; an entire album of Randy Newman songs, sung by the marvelous Harry Nilsson. They were birds of a feather, really.

Randy's great! Many years since I listened to him a lot, but I used to listen to him a lot. So many great songs and I love the way he gets in character for songs and sings them in the first person - a style which got him into a lot of trouble over the years.

Harry had some voice. His version of the Badfinger song 'Without you' still brings a tear to my eye.

It's funny how many musicians have a self destruct button. Maybe we feel too much.
