Title: My tribute to David Bowie
Post by: Jackdaw on May 17, 2017, 09:37:52 PM
A tribute to David Bowie

THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD,
Was not A LAD INSANE,
His PIN UPS graced Our walls,
And His music shall remain.

The Earth has lost an Angel,
And the Heavens gained a STAR,
Fond farewell the THIN WHITE DUKE,
Of music and guitar.

His World was HUNKY DORY,
As he played from STATION TO STATION,
He made us feel like HEROES,
And his songs touched every Nation.

The Earth has lost an Angel,
And the Heavens gained a STAR,
Fond farewell the THIN WHITE DUKE,
Of music and guitar.

He gave us SOUND AND VISION,
A DRUMMER BOY of Peace,
He said LET'S DANCE,
And take a chance,
Life's CHANGES never cease.

The Earth has lost an Angel,
And the Heavens gained a STAR,
Fond farewell theTHIN WHITE DUKE,
Of music and guitar.

He sang for YOUNG AMERICANS,
Jived with SCARY MONSTERS too,
The EARTHLING from SPACE ODDITY,
Gave us ZIGGY STARDUST's view.

The Earth has lost an Angel,
And the Heavens gained a STAR,
Fond farewell the THIN WHITE DUKE,
Of music and guitar.

TONIGHT at twighlight HOURS,
I will offer You a prayer,
Shine on 'Mister' BLACKSTAR
NEXT DAY and Everywhere.

Jackdaw1888 :-)

Rest in Peace mister Jones.

This is really a great write, love the way you include his song titles in it, all you need now is for someone to come along and make your words come alive, hopefully in Bowie style, my only advice is dont let this gather dust and change "My third go at Songwriting"  to  "A tribute to David Bowie"  massive potential here, really cool write  8)

Thanks for the advice.
But the 'coolest' thing is that Astronomers' discovered Bowie's Star within the Galaxy shortly after his Death.
Hence I added such a line to my lyrics.

Rest in Peace mister Jones.
Your star will shine for evermore xxx

As were many others.

Personally speaking...
And not trying to blow my own trumpet etc etc etc.

I would challenge any so called SongWriter or Lyricist or Musician or Record Producer to come up with a better Song than I have.

Jackdaw 1888

Ps...
And even if they thought they did or they have?
Then I myself have another David Robert Jones song up my sleeve ... from when he Fell to Earth around 125 years ago.

You mean a better lyric than this one, or is it now a song?  Love to hear it if so.  I wrote my own tribute in the days after his death, although more in the spirit of his lyrics than referencing his material.  A great loss.

My ditty, which developed into a full song in partnership with another Forum member's on Soundcloud if you're interested :).

Good lyrics. I'd be tempted to not have the song titles in capital letters. Same song but reads so much better for the subtlety.

Dude, you could do a pub quiz with this. Read it out and people have to spotall the  Bowie songs there are.
Personally I didnt like  his music much, but he was a  gentleman and you gotta respect that in superstars. You see so many of them go crazy with self importance.

great lyrics, well done. Grew up to his music, which is still all around us. I also liked the dignity around the way he just faded from view in later years looking after his young sun. Cool

I was (am...) also a massive Bowie fan.  Outside of close friends and family, I think his death hit me harder than anyone else's.

Your lyrics made me think a bit of the track "Dandy" by Ian Hunter, Bowie's old mate from Mott the Hoople.  You can check it out here if you like:

He was also inspired to reference some Bowie song names in the track, although I think you squeezed more in.  Hope you continue and put some music behind yours too.

I think Bowie saved Ian Hunter and his musical career and indeed that of Mott the Hoople...
ie All The Young Dudes???

But thanks anyways.
