Title: How Close?
Post by: Morefrog Jones on January 14, 2017, 10:34:58 PM
Hi this is a backing track Ive produced thats waiting for the the vocals to be put on... but I was interested In how close, those of you with good technical knowledge, think this is to reasonable broadcast quality. I want to upload to BBC introducing - Ive really tried as hard as my limited knowledge will take to polish this as much as I can - am I close or should I hand over to someone who knows what they are doing?
Many Thanks in advance.

Morefog. If I was running BBC introducing it would be the first song on the show and would be repeated every five minutes. Trouble is mate.... Our local BBC introducing host is loving the Ed Sheenan soundalikes and some other safe stuff like Shakin Stevens clones, so if your music is slightly dangerous or you are over 30 then they might possibly pay you lip service but apart from that, no chance. Mind you, would I really want to be associated with q DJ who starts her show with Easy Lover and then moves on to Nik Kershaw and Howard Jones ? Good luck bro  :)

Hello

I don't see any reason why BBC Introducing wouldn't play this because of any quality-control issues...I'm sure the production is perfectly adequate...and I really like it too.

The whole point of BBC introducing, surely, is to give exposure to artists who have great ideas and the desire to get their music out there, despite limited resources.

I hope they do play it. Let us know how you get on.

I think I sent nearly all of mine to my local station...they only played the comedy one "control-alt-delete"

To be honest, I listened to the whole of the relevant episode and I didn't really rate any of it.

Which made me feel less bad about being previously and subsequently snubbed :)

It sounds pretty good to me, but there are a couple of things I´d change. First the chiming sounds that come in at 1:18 and are repeated later are way too loud (at least through my headphones). You could do a lot with that sort of sound (EQ/Pan/Echoes etc) and I woud play with it a bit.

Also, there´s another layer that starts at 2:58 under the second set of chimes that I think could be more prominent. Apart from those, I think it sounds excellent.

Sounds pretty good to me. Maybe a little busy if anything, for something with vocals still yet to come.

But source quality wise it seems pretty good to my ears.
