I am proud and pleased to announce the winners of the May SOTM. As this month there were 7 contenders I will take the liberty to announce the top 4 as there was very little between them:
1. tboswell - Where did The Time Go, Emily?
2. Skub - Seasons
3. LostBoy - Better Man
4. Crystalsuzy - Simon Says
BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO TOM (AGAIN), TO THE RUNNERS-UP AND ALL THE OTHER NOMINEES. EVERYONE GOT GOOD VOTES, WHICH WAS PLEASING TO SEE.
Ok everyone, I have finally made a final 5 out of a million good songs. There are a number that didn't make the list but I went through them all a number of times. If I could have put 10 on here I would have been a lot happier.
Skub, Tina, Delboy, PaulTimms, John, Jamie, Known As Beppe...you would have made this list in an alternate universe, or if I had had less coffee this morning. And I have no doubt I have missed someone from there...
As much as possible I have tried to go for strong melodies and originality in the arrangement...all these songs are fairly well produced but I hope people don't judge too much on performance and engineering skills. Anyway, get your top three to me by midnight on June 14th from these little gems:

2 of these nominations aren't strictly eligible as they haven't posted at least 100 times. This rule appears to have gone by the board but it means that 2 forum members who do meet the criteria get bumped. Up to you, just pointing out ;D

Ok, well I haven't heard anything from the boss so we can leave the noms as they are for now and in future, I will make sure I stick to that rule (if I am ever allowed another go). Alternatively I could just add another two songs that I was thinking of putting in anyway :D

Just had a very enjoyable listen to all of these tracks...great picks and nice to see a good spread of genres and styles...also enjoyed the shot the newer guys get...hope they're around enough to appreciate the vote of confidence...
I will now don my smoking jacket and carpet slippers and retire to the drawing room with a fine claret, an aromatic Havana and attempt to formulate my top three :)

In order to vote you have to know at least 2 chords. If you vote for a jazz song, you have to know at least 3 chords.

Okay ive spoken to my fingers and ask them how many chords do you guys know and one of them is just after poking me in the eye but im almost certain its at least 2 maybe even 3, ill keep my good eve on them next time im playing my guitar, sorry their guitar ;)

To be honest I still feel sorry for the guys I missed out. Some of my favourite songs from this month didn't make the shortlist because I was trying to be objective about song craft. Eurovision is not as easy as it looks.

If I'm being honest, I was gutted to not even make the long list with "Switchblade". Based on the quantity and positivity of the reviews, I thought it went down pretty well. What more do I have to do? (Weeps into beer) ;D

Sorry Monty, you did make the longlist, I just forgot to mention you in the original post. It was really tough to choose. Obviously next time you'll be there in place of Skub. Don't weep into your beer, it dilutes the alcohol.

It certainly was difficult and I know there are upset songwriters out there...fear not, they will return. I had an inital shortlist of 17 and was thinking ´what the **** do I do now?´. It could have been so different. Keep your votes coming everyone!

Yay, I'm the first of the losers!
Actually I have to admit to a little vote tampering. Martin told me on the quiet that I'd really won, but when I saw Neil's post on copyright, I was terrified and asked Marty to put me second. I can't afford all those legal eagle charges, let Boswell win, he's loaded.

I think we should run both - I mean how long could it possibly take to do a bare bones song anyway :)

i'm sure there'll be plenty of other great entries to choose from even if a few people are busy writing their "bare bones" songs...

You have a point,Tina.
Using that logic, it'll be 2 months out, since BB entry doesn't close until 31st July.
June may be ok, but the BB comp will have a long list of songs to judge by end of July. Some folk may struggle to review both comps and still critique the ongoing songs on the forum.
Still, perhaps it's better a feast than a famine.

I would think they'll be enough songs to run SOTM. It would be a shame if some great songs don't get recognised because they happened to coincide with the bare bones comp.
