A glass of powdered milk.
To satisfy this sceptics eye
You must show some proof
It's so easy to see through
The lies that you call truth
I won't be falling for the charm
That mouth as smooth as silk
So don't insult my palate with
A glass of powdered milk
I know what kind of man you are
I've met your kind before
I greeted him with warm applause
Each time he took the floor
I was bitten then, my friend
To my eternal guilt
I took the hand that gave no more
Than a glass of powdered milk
I've read the manifesto
And you may say i'm dense
But why not call it gobbledeguck
Cause it doesn't make much sense
You deal in smoke and mirrors
Like others of your ilk
And try to fool with artifice
And a glass of powdered milk
I'm tired of the let downs
I'm tired of the dregs
And artificial men that stand
On artificial legs
I'm tired of panning riverbeds
And finding only silt
And servants that pour nothing more
Than a glass of powdered milk
Head of state, don't make me laugh
You think you're fit to govern
Do us all a favour mate
And stick yours in the oven
We've been shafted long enough
Shafted to the hilt
And fed a load of bullshit
Washed down with powdered milk
When it comes to politics
It seems like more or less
Educated men that make
An educated guess
Educated rich men
That lie on sheets of silk
While the poor make do with cotton
And a glass of powdered milk
Do i sound disillusioned
Well that's because i am
When to the left the choice is fire
The right a frying pan
So i'll just sit here on the fence
Until that house is built
On more than just a dry rot floor
And a glass of powdered milk.

Hi Vintage
Another stellar write IMHCO.
So many good lines - can't pick a favourite but
That mouth as smooth as silk
And stick yours in the oven
sure as hell stand out from the crowd.
Love a good political rant and this is one of the best I've heard for some time ;D ;D
Take a bow!

Vintage,
Excellent and sly.......your summary of the frustration with the glib inanities we are forced to endure day after day...I love your coming at it using powdered milk...
Would you like some powdered chocolate to go with that powdered milk.....It makes it so much more palatable....LOL
Very nicely done in your inimitable style!!!
I drink to your health, my friend,

Had to read it twice, because my first read didn't catch on to the meaning until I was 3/4 of the way through.
That's a strength, not a nit. Well worth the second read.
Exceptional subject matter/concept. Brilliant execution of that concept. One of the best I've read here.
I particularly loved that it was soooooo skeptical without sliding into cynicism. You left plenty of room for hope. You'll (your protagonist) will resume playing the game when someone inspires some genuine hope that the game will be fair. That avoids the "cynic" label and tone.
I thought this was simply brilliant.

Absolutely wonderful read!
Easy rhythmic structure and great use of metaphor (albeit unorthodox, it gets the point across strongly).
I would love to hear this to music because my mind keeps reading it like I would a Shel Silverstein poem, and this has a far different emotion then what I picture for it!
Great job Vintage, keep 'um coming!

I love the creative approach to this topic. I have no constructive criticism for you; I think it's fine as is. And I'm really looking forward to the musical setting for this. Please hurry.... :)
Vicki
PS: I take that back. Don't hurry. Take the time you need to make it what you want. But don't dawdle, okay???
