I have been enjoying some time in the lyrics section over the last couple of weeks, as Jess would put it, I have come from the ''dark side'  ( the song section ).

This is a song I put together about two years ago and just wanted to share it.

Will you bring me roses
===============

(c) Allan Kilgour 2011 (APRA)

Verse 1

I cant remember, when you wern’t here
cant recall the day can’t recall the year
I can’t remember, A time without you
You are my bridge, you are my glue

Verse 2

I see you in the road, in the water too
Everything around is an image of you,
I hear you in the bird song, and in the dead of night
Theres not a sound in life that you’re not like

Chorus

Will you bring me roses
Play my favourite song
Baby will you miss me
Will you miss me when I’m gone

Verse 3

You like adventure, you love havin fun
We do it together, you’re my soul woman
Travelling as one, never apart
Always sharing with my true sweetheart

Verse 4

Remember me and our good times past
When I move on from life at last
Cause Ill be here to see you thru
My true love I love you

Repeat chorus

Hi, great song.  I love the way you tease the listener with the point of view; will SHE bring roses for HIM ???  then it all becomes clear later.  It's a very clever piece and I almost daren't say too much for fear of creating a spoiler for whoever reads it next.  As we say around here "good arrow".

I think the word that describes this best for me is 'nice'. It's a nice song IMO even if the subject matter isn't so nice per se. It has the feel of a good old fashioned country love song. The chorus is very simple yet very sincere and that for me fills it with an emotive energy that highly convoluted lyrics would not have been able to achieve. I love the opening verse, it draws you in and it opens up the gambit for a very nice story to develop from there. I love the line about seeing her in the water.

Hi serious fun, country singer from NZ, I like it, a simple clever love song, well thought out, good flow, good structure, nicely written.
I like the chorus, simple, not a lot of words, but they say it all.
yeh, nice one mate !

kev.

hey allan,

good write here,
first verse said the same thing over though for me
and i was a little confused by the part he sees her in the road
i thought  she was dead at that point, then it seems to say he's going to die
also thrown a little by  soul woman
but i think you do have something here
the chorus is nice to, i would like to hear it sung
well done allan take care...

Thank you for the feedback guys.

@banjo - you are quite right. The third line in Verse 1 is totally redundant , but I wrote this a couple of years back and recorded it and somehow this slipped thru the next so I am stuck with it. The reference to the road is aligned with the reference to the water in that there are lots of visual images that remind him of her from their past experiences together. They had spent a lot of time travelling. There is another mention of the travelling aspect in a later verse.
Soul woman is derrivitaive from soulmate and in no way implies that the woman is dead.

from wiki

 "Soul mate -
◾A soulmate or soul mate is a person with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, love, intimacy, sexuality, spirituality, and/or compatibility. …"

This made me smile :)

My first thought when reading the lyrics were they're a little bit cheesy but then I heard them and I grew to appreciate them more- I mean THAT intro is amazing! I will be liking it on soundcloud later :)
The chorus is strong, the language is simple yet not too monosyllabic and I agree it's very nice

The chorus is short but sweet which is nice. I really like the repetition in the first verse. Think that has to be my favourite part of the song! Good work :3
