What is most important, lyrics or music?

You can have the most brilliant, poetic lyrics ever - but if they are put to a boring melody, nobody is going to care.

Likewise you may have penned down a perfect melody, with the right harmonies in exactly the right places. If the lyrics are terrible though, it will prevent people fully appreciating the music.

They are both equally important... Oh I do love sitting on the fence ;)

Well my mate Ralph says..people first notice the hook,,,then the melody draws them in and the lyric keeps them there....so it`s all important.

I'd say the music changes the way you hear the lyrics, and the lyrics change the way you interpret the music

it's best generally to get both right and that they fit each other well

As a lyricist, I tip my hat to those who can compose a beautiful melody. The melody compliments the lyric.
