I wanted to do another song where everyday things make the rhythm track
(I did one where a pair of scissors snipping made the rhythm & the song was set at the hairdressers but cant remember if I posted it here?)
anyway cars arent my most knowledgeable topic but no you are not on a train those are windscreen wipers ok! ;D
its appears quite a sad song... but its actually quite dark
its also a bit rough.. I only do a couple of takes & pick the best one I dont see the point being any more fussy about it anymore

if you can get epilepsy of the ears then I suppose this should carry a warning ;D ...theres a lot of things rushing about...it doesnt bother me but if youve raised 3 young children then you are used to it  :)

lyrics
The cars go by
ones got  my dad in it..
he drove away
&  never came back..
I ll always know the sound of his Merc
coming down our road
home from work you know

I know hes probably changed it in 30 years
but i cant help listening for it every single place i go
every night you prayed
he was in a good mood
cos you was afraid
when he came home

The cars go by
ones got my dad in it..
he drove away
& never came back..
I still know the sound of his car
coming down our road
its not a nice sound
I wish I could forget it

Hi Tina,

Nice to hear something a little more conventional from you. It's a great angle to take on the subject of a parent leaving. I liked the line "I know hes probably changed it in 30 years but i cant help listening for it every single place i go" - That's exactly how we think even though we know it's not rational. It is a sad song but it has a beautiful melancholy feel which is what I love in music. Thee solo at 1:40 is gorgeous.

Great production, mix and superbly recorded vocal. Reminded me a little of the 60's girl group sound - The Shangrilas, if you know them.

Loved the sound effects - worked very well.

Altogether a rather lovely thing.

Tina

This has got your usual distinctive sound and thought put into the whole arrangement. It´s different to hear a song like this from you but you deliver it with 100s and 1000s on top. Your vocal style is perfectly suited to the subject matter and the car noises are a stroke of genius because I keep thinking which is the one? In fact, it´s a little disturbing in a melancholy way.

As Monty said, the solo is great (I love the sound - please tell me what you used!) and the production superb once again. Give up the day job, you need to do this full-time.

Tina,
Interesting juxtaposition the lyrics, which are very good and dark, and simple old school pop tune. Very effective and its catchy.
The cars and sound samples all good. Tasteful guitars, what do I expect!.
My only thought is I'd prefer to hear your vocals without any protective fx.
Enjoyed hearing a less frenetic you.
 :)

A certain top 10 hit in the sixties that's for sure, it's bloody excellent, everything you've done works beautifully....
should be a hit now but music trends are so narrow and entrenched..pity..

great work from you Tinam..

Hi Tina,

Your usual amazingly creative and inventive stlyle but in a different direction. I think this is very clever stuff.

Great sixties surf sound and vocals remind me a bit of Kirsty McColl. Nice to hear your vocals which are excellent

Love the sound effects you've mixed in.

Great piece of work

This is absolutely brilliant. The vocals remind me of those early new wave artists (Can't put my finger on it right now, but I'm several glasses of wine deep at this point). Kirsty McColl vibe too. Real brilliant surf sound, love the sound of the cars. that's a genius idea.

Psychedelic shangri-las.
Like this one a lot!

Well that was a trip back to the fifties for me.
Not that I remember much of them :)
Lovely performance staying true to the genre - great vocals and understated guitar.
Nice one Tina - nice to hear a change in pace from you!

I listened to this without reading the words at first, after I did I realised how well you'd 'turned right' musically to set up the lyrics 'from the left' a bit like how a boxer delivers the knockout blow...and that IMHO is great songwriting. I also appreciated the way you concisely dealt with how 'hurt' effects how we live and can sometimes last a lifetime...All wrapped up in a jolly melody and performed beautifully

 Wow Tina.....heartfelt stuff ;D ;D

Love the emotion in the whole piece,
especially the guitar. I'm getting sadness
vulnerability and mischief  ;D I think there
is a big 'youthful' sound in the character
of your voice that is very appealing. ;D

It really comes across in this song. There
are places where the vocal seems to merge
 into the guitar.......loved it ;D

 Always a pleasure.......

Tina goes all retro on us.

Skub approves.

Skub also approves of the melancholy aspect of the subject matter. After all there are many navels to be gazed upon and so little time.

Nice work,missus.  :)

I can't think of anything original to add to everything everyone else has already said. I always like your productions and wish I had your skills. And this genre of music is one of my top favorites...maybe my #1 favorite. This is awesome, and I'll be very surprised if it isn't on the September shortlist.

What can I say? It's great!

Yes Tina,

It's like a fifties candyapple lollipop...so sweet and lasts such a long time...Bright reds and greens...
Enough synaesthesia.....
Love the tune and sweet way you work in the darker message...I really enjoyed everything about it!

Surf music meets 50's girl band pop!  Very nice!  Bit of a dark subject but it's very well couched in the genre.  Nicely done!

Very smooth. The fifties have style.  Very good song quite sad.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.
