the inspiration for this was my 40th birthday,a glass of champagne,a line from a film and the reflection of times gone by

https://soundcloud.com/weaver-k/youve-gotta-be-lost

You’ve gotta be lost to find what can’t be found
Its only the good that die young
The rest of us drown
In a world full of questions with
Answers that cant be found
You’ve gotta be lost to find what cant be found

You can gamble and chance your winnings
On the throw of one lonely dice
But it’s the ability to change your self
That can really save your life

And when you look back at your life
And everything that you’ve won
And remember the days that you lost
The things you never told anyone

And when you look back along the line
At everyone you’ve ever heard cry
And remembered the faces who’ve left
Without saying goodbye

You’ve gotta be lost to find what can’t be found
Its only the good that die young
The rest of us drown
In a world full of questions with
Answers that cant be found
You’ve gotta be lost to find what cant be found

Weaver, cool work

just attended a funeral this morning

and i am only a few years older than you (no really, just a few )

but what i am trying to say is, that the feeling you are describing, captured in this song, comes across

for me now, and i think it is good songwriting

i always would like to hear strings in a song like this

but it is just right as it is, real songwriting, as it is

As you are aware the production is not great but to get a song to sound this good with minimal production and just a guitar and vocal is not easy. So what I am saying is that this is a very good 'performance' and a strong piece of songwriting.  Would love to have heard this with some more production on it. Thought the vocal was oustanding.

Allan.

Would have liked some lyrics  ;)

Great vocal and I liked the acoustic guitar accompaniment. This does sound a little familiar but I can't pinpoint it so you've achieved that difficult thing which is for your song to sound familiar but not a copy. This is a strong song and I don't think it needs too much messing with. Maybe a little lead guitar here and there, acoustic bass and a bit of "organic" keyboard (Hammond B3 for example) would set it off nicely. Very promising song.

Hi Weaver,

Good stripped down track. It's weird but when i listen i hear the rest of the song as if I've heard a full on version before and now I'm listening to some unplugged version being played on the radio or something.
Good lyrics - in my kind of ball park. Liked your voice as well.

Im not trying to belittle your song, i was just saying that SongsThatCry said it reminded him of something. maybe it was the song that i said that he was thinking of.
I shall never criticise anybody who sits down and takes the time and effort to write a song. its a great hobby.

I liked it a lot but the lyrics, particularly in the first verse, need a little work to fit more snappily - the word 'ability' particularly made me look up ... good song, good voice though.

Hey Weaver  ;D

Certainly has bags of potential - the lyric and rhythm is excellent - I love the sentiment of the lyric ;D

Even as an acoustic piece I think you could work harder to get more dynamics into the performance - I was desperate for you go break out into all out strumming instead of the 'muffled' strumming you have employed

Thanks for sharing mate  :D
