Some pretty good, succinct point. Many of which I largely agree with. And many of the flaws of which I see daily in some of my studio clients.

Doing my best to avoid most of the pitfalls. Although I do self produce - surely it doesn't count when your day job IS a music producer ;)

Not knocking your production skillz at all James (I've heard what this man can do) but I thought it's worth chipping in that working with a producer isn't just about achieving a 'sound' - as far as I'm concerned it's as much about collaboration as anything. Finding a producer who gets you and your songs is a massive win in my book.

This is why I love collaborating with other musicians (like my violinist Pal i have just posted a song with)

A good producer will help craft a sound. Which puts me in an odd position as I craft my own.  I do love feedback from musician friends for this reason.
