Title: Jump Right On In
Post by: Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra on April 26, 2016, 07:01:56 PM
Before I go any further just wanted to get a few thoughts.

It's just a minute and a half except so you won't get bored hopefully.

Does the guitar sound ok? I wanted an older sound generally.....older than the guitar sound...but I liked the energy of the guitar sound....

Is the energy ok generally? I'll redo the vocal though it won't be much better.

I like the guitar ok, but--this might be just me--I wish it was faster. Significantly faster, even, like about 180. But maybe it's just 'cuz I'm always in a rush....

All sounds good to me. The guitar sounds fine - maybe a tad quiet compared to the bass.

But, yes, there is something about the energy. I don't think the tempo is wrong - I think the guitar could come up and it'll cure it. I listened to it side-by-side with the Feelgood's "Back In The Night" which is similar in style and arrangement and there isn't much difference. Guitar up, redo-vocals, get everyone to play with attitude and bingo!

Works for me - already looking forward to the finished version.

Cheers
Derek

Hi VC

Guitar sounds good to me...perhaps a tiny bit too much gain on it for a real old-fashioned sound, but that's nit-picking and it sounds great anyway.

I'd whack the guitar up a bit as you probably fully intend to do anyway...

I thought it had a nice authoritative feel to it and a little swagger - which I really liked about it

Look forward to it!

Vicki I think I'd struggle at 180bpm. That's nearly Paulski's 'Shop Until You Drop' and that one wore me out just thinking about it!

edit...on reflection you might be right though...I'll zap it up a few mph

Del....you're right about the guitar. It will go up. I wasn't thinking about the Feelgoods when I first started on this but have thought about them since and I did spend a period of time with a cassette tape which had Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac on side A and Malpractice on side B. If it comes even within a mile of that then I'll be happy!

Paul....yeah I never really experimented much with the sound. I just dialled this in and thought 'ooh yeah I quite like that' This is my acoustic guitar through an amp sim again.

Swagger I like!

Cheers

Cheers guys and girls.

I've never tried playing lead guitar thru the amp sim before so I was as surprised as anybody.....it has in fact changed my whole idea for the song. I was going to have harmonica in there but there won't be any room for that now.

I'm suitably assured that it will pass muster. Thank you!

Will post as soon as I redo the vocal and sort out an ending. I do like a nice ending not a 'oh God I don't know that'll do'

Hi, sounds great! Strong blues stuff and a great guitar. I think it sounds fine on the instrumental side as a whole. My only suggestion would be to try to make the vocal a bit more "come to bed sweetheart", give it a bit of huskiness you know? You sing it well but for me you need to give it a bit more emotion in the tone. Just an idea though.

Yes I agree wholeheartedly Martyn but it ain't so easy.....not like I can just pick up a voice with a better tone. I'm trying though! Getting the right key is the best I can aim for. My range isn't spectacular.

Hey you sing it well...and you should hear my come to bed voice. It would make sharks bolt in fear.

Nothing wrong with this at all Ian. Really like it. Good guitar sounds and the pace is OK for me for a blues number like this. Similar speed to Back In the Night I think. I alsway record my guitar dray and then run it through a variety of presets in the Amp Sim until I find something that I like. Sometimes even copy the track and apply a different preset to each track panned slightly left and slightly right. Amazing software. Just been getting into Guitar Rig and that is something else, although that's my musical budget for the year gone  :)

I liked the tempo as it is.  I really like the energy.  I didn't find anything I thought needed changed.  Obviously you'll want to keep refining it, but nothing stood out as a bad direction.

Thanks for the input guys. Sorry not to have replied sooner. Madly busy.

My main interest was the guitar sound as it is fake and I have not played electric since I was a teenager and even then knew nothing of distortion pedals or any effects....and still don't!
