# Borodino 1812 #

In a dream,
the river flows red
Kutuzov at the fields of
Borodino

Through a fiery haze of musket shots
bataille des géants,
and the horror of 1812

Black cloads shift throught the sky
towards the Asian Capital

August 26th we held the lines
At fleches of Begration,
they give their lives freely
Alexander, Hussars charge at the brake of day
through burning smoke of Sulphur
It gives you more to live for

would you need more?
wounded stretched on stretches
most as far as the eye can see
yet it is bad luck to have a cold
on a warm day

The sky is weary with stars
and a comet blaze a burning trail

August 26 we held the lines
At fleches of Begration,
they give their lives freely Alexander,
Hussars charge at the brake of day
through burning smoke of sulphur
It gives you more to live for
would you need more?

Kremlin is taken
Moscow in flames

August 26 we held the lines
At fleches of Begration,
they give their lives freely Alexander,
Hussars charge at the brake of day
through burning smoke of sulphur
It gives you more to live for
would you need more?

Fear in my heart again
As it burns down, it burns for you
A new dawn
The shadows roars again
To feel free, to feel free

haven't heard smart Rock for a while
this is really good

Wish you hadn't put the chords in with the lyrics, it's distracting

I don't know what you're going on about
but sounds great!!

I like those squeezed notes in the voice.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Don't eat the yellow snow

And there you have it.

A blistering rocker. Yeah, interesting words. I'm not a historian so I can't comment on the story but it all adds up to a terrific song. A really clever arrangement especially in the latter part. I enjoyed this :)

Epic stuff...and quite a bloodbath. An good example of a Western European army doing their best to "counter Russian aggression" as the early 19th century MSM might have described it...how things have changed  ;)

Big powerful sound to this and I loved that little change around the "Kremlin in flames" line. and then the great understated instrumental break that follows...very nice.

Borodino was a very important moment for Russia, no doubt...and the inspiration for "War and Peace" and the 1812 overture, I think...probably as important in stopping Napoleon's invasion as Stalingrad was in stopping Hitler's invasion.

I think Putin recently said something to the effect that Russia won't fight another war inside its own borders. I wouldn't worry though...he's probably bluffing and would likely run away if confronted by Boris, Joe Biden, Macron and co  :P

@rightly - removed the chords and cleaned up the lyrics, thanks for listening
@PaulAds - you are right about the Tolstoy connection. Musket fire and russian speech during the interlude I got from the 1965 Russian War and Peace movie directed by Sergey Bondarchuk. Thanks for listening

Hola @OleAnders

Wow!!! I did not know that this morning I was going to witness such a cruel battle. I really liked the intro, it is full of force, it announces the action! Good lyrics and good sound. I really liked the instrumental part from approx. 2, very good arrangement. The FX on the voice is great !!
I did not know that to live we had to die so many times

Great epic sweep about this, the production is super and the held back verses with the etherial feel about them give way to the powerful chorus really well. Reminds me of the kind of subtle rock thing QOTSA do.

Lyrically I like the way it tells the narrative but at times it feels a little forced without much rhyming in there. If that was your intention though, it works well and unsettles the ear a bit.

Great listen, great productions, super vocals. Thanks for sharing.
