Force Of Nature

When I was a young man I thought I'd live forever
I waited sullen, demanding all the answers
I'd so much anger curling the force of nature
My empty silence was  a roaring tidal wave

If you don't want me let me go

We're always changing while anchored to our birth core
Are we genetics? Or inherited behavior?
Natural selection, a survival of the fittest
My biggest error is a reluctance to adapt

If you don't love me let me go

I wasted years on this, controlling, ignoring it
I did my very best, I tried to change, tried everything
But I was programmed from the start
Theres no way I could alter that

You never loved me let me go

great fun to me!
good song
but also critical remarks
the arrangment is difficult to me, but I only listened one time now.

I hear parts working well, but towards the end I don't feel / see the greater picture...

I hope it is ok to say this

and the stringy / synth sounds do seem to have too much reverb sometimes making notes really running into eachother not in a good way

just my opinion
listening again...I think I am loosing touch with the arrangment from 2.15 onwards

but I do like your songwriting, but this particular arrangment didn't do the song complete justice, I think

Cheers Dutch

I appreciate all your advice my friend

I only got the keyboard/software 6 weeks ago so I am a beginner!

I am trying to write differently by fully arranging the song then writing the melody , normally i would map it all out on guitar first. Unfortunately that means i am costrained by what I know on the keyboard - hope that makes sense

I was going to ditch this song but it grew on me as I hope it does on you  :)

So DB

Finally listened again to this, it's been far too sunny in Scotland today to be musical, it's time for wine and beer.

Got to say you are right about synth sounds being blurry, I got to lost in the song to hear this.

Hopefully if I fix this the middle 8 will come together more.

Thanks for your good advice  ;)

This is an interesting song, the arrangement is especially accomplished, although I would say you need to work more with getting original sounds (they sound like a lot of the presets I can get at the push of a button). The singing doesnt sit so well in this mix and it makes it hard to get the tune out of it, which at times sounds like it could be a really great tune.
I hear some note clashes at various points aswell which need correcting.
It has the potential to be a really nice and breezy song in the vein of Postal Service, just has some creases that need ironing out.

Cheers RS

I agree with your comments , I listened to it after Dutchbeat review and noticed the notes clashing/reverb etc

I am glad you think it's good though, I think there is a good song in there

I am finding it really hard to mix songs so it's all trial and error

Thanks for taking the time to listen/review :)

Can't hear the original one, but yeah there is less clashes (still some from about 1:15). Vocals fit in a bit better, although the reverb on them is vastly different to the rest of the track. Not sure what you did, but the overall sound is also improved!

PS just realised that you are behind about the past 3 songs I've commented on - you have a really broad range of styles!!!

Thanks for listening again RS, I think this is as good as I am going to get it until my new mic arrives.

I am recording on the ipad , there is some seriously good software for this at a about £5 a pop, only problem is the mic, still waiting on the apogee being released which will be the only digital one of the market.

I have some good korg synths which cost a few hundred quid in the day, plus its portable so you can work on stuff on trains, the bog etc ;D

Sorry ;) currently you can only connect up a mic through an adaptor which uses your audio input so its not a digital connection. Apogee are about to roll out a digital connector.

Seriously the Ipad is unbelievable for making music and there are apps coming out daily.
