When Fiona (the female vocal) brought this song to me it was a typical female lament of lost/wronged love. What I did was give the tune a male perspective to the failed love scenario. The two sides were presented and the final moments offer hope of reconciliation.

Enter..eternal boy/girl whingy schitt!

https://soundcloud.com/skub1955/one-last-time

I have no more words left to say
He's silent now his eyes look far away
I wish I could go back to innocent times
And leave this heartache behind

When it comes to letting go girl, you are no beginner
I've never been the one who gets to choose
When it's time to say goodbye, you are the winner
I guess I'm the one to lose

Just for tonight could he hold me
Let me believe I'm still the one
Just for tonight could he touch me
And leave behind what's been done
Just for tonight could he love me
Just one more time

I am so alone,no one to hold
The fire that burned in him has frozen cold
I wish that I could melt the ice away
And maybe he'd still look at me that way

All this talk of lovin' yet you push me away
What you do speaks louder than what you say
The distance here between us is real and it's a shame
You love to play the martyr that's your game

Just for tonight could you hold me
Let me believe I'm still the one
Just for tonight could you touch me
And leave behind what's been done
Just for tonight could you love me
Just one last time

Is this the point of no turning

Is there still time?

Hi Skub, a slow burner and I'm glad I let it wash over me. I think the song is excellent and your voices works together like sweet and sour, you being the sweet.

I'm not sure about the ending though. Your last verse has a touch of finality about it. I was expecting to hear the last chorus sang just by you. It would have reinforced the message in the last verse. If you wanted to end the song with a question mark I'd have made the last verse a little more ambiguous.

Feel free to ignore me if you disagree. Great way to spend 10 minutes on a Monday morning.

Beautiful song and fab singing..I think the piano could've stopped for a few bars somewhere, it became a bit monotonous playing the same thing all the time but the piano sound was excellent..

a song for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton methinks...

best, Kevin :)

Hi Skub,

Very nice production. I did get a bit of clipping at times on the female vocal .47, 3.35 and 3.50ish. No-one else has mentioned it - so maybe it's my speakers. Lovely vocal performance though.
Super country ballad writing. I too would have liked a spot without the piano - just something really intimate (just as a personal taste thing).

Very enjoyable.

Very beautiful and classy song!
I think digger is right about the clipping, I hear it as well and I also think there is something at about 1.35 as well.
In the first verse some words that are sung pretty low and soft gets lost so some volume automation there would probably be appropriate.
In the parts where you are both singing there are a few spots where the two voices are not tight enough to a point where it  becomes a little disturbing.
Other than the the mix sounds just fine to me and the performance is stellar!
A very enjoyable listen, well done!

Guys all really well sung and played. Sounds fine but for some reason its not quite connecting melodically on first hearing, maybe its a grower I'll have another go.

I enjoyed the singing and mood of this. Production wise could be enhanced with strings and tighter coupling of the two vocals in places and I thought it was about a minute too long. Maybe keep it long but add some ornaments along the way with lead guitar or some other inst?
Lyrically it is well worn territory but not to the point of cliché IMHO.
Nice song!

Hi, not really my genre, but sounds like a Kenny and dolly type song to my untrained ears! Some nice chord changes here and there. I'm not a fan of country story songs so a little difficult for me to connect with, but that probably says more about me than you! Nice singing you both do a good job. I too , found the continuous piano a bit monotonous, but I regularly fall into this trap myself. Sometimes the vocals sounded a bit too prominent in the mix, but a good song of it's type!
Nice one
cheers

Very beautiful.

classic style.

somewhere between the Titanic soundtrack (midi horns?) and maybe musical.

But pls fix the clipping issues on the female voice lane.

cheers B

sad but beautiful song, love the vocals
fiona reminds a little of linda ronstadt or emmy lou harris
the contrast when your voc comes in works great
good lyric, though when i read it before listening i thought it might go a bit wobblydrama meatloaf
but its beautiful and heartfelt
really good

The combination of vocals is nice again. I actually prefer the male vocal in this one (has a nice timbre and a more emotional delivery for me) but they do go well together.
The song is a good example of its type and the lyric is perfect for the genre I think. I wasn't mad about the pan pipe or flute or whatever it is....otherwise the structure and arrangement sounds fine to me. Didn't have any problem with the piano part at all.

Others have mentioned the clipping.....

Really nicely produced ballad. Stylish and moving.
Take it easy.

Really enjoyed the listen, very soothing and very easy to listen to. Both of the voices were great. This song could have gotten monotonous, but I thought you broke it up nicely to avoid this. Nothing negative to say about this, good luck with it!

Tasty piano intro with the bass right in the pocket. Strong vocal performance from both singers. Great to have a duet on the forum of this calibre. Sang with feeling, a totally believable performance.

With vocals this strong you don't need too much backing, I think you have applied just the right amount here.

Thanks for posting this, really lovely listen.

Nice to have a country duet - a dying breed unfortunately. Great song, great vocal and the arrangement is fine to these ears. I liked the piano part. I would have dropped the strings and the whistley thing - it sounded a bit cod Irish - and I would have put in a pedal steel and harmonica. That would have given it a stronger country flavour and been more appropriate for the song IMHO. As it is though, it's lovely and it's a fine piece of work.
