Um so how do you guys go about this? Post a song here? Pm? Rules? Is it too late to enter in the April SOTM? Is there even one in April? You see, I have tons of questions! =) Yeah I'm old, I know.

When I asked questions like that, the answers (as I recall) were:
One person accepts the duty of nominating the top 5 of the month and posting them with their links, so we can all listen to them.
That person chooses the songs from all the songs posted in "Finished Songs" during the month, so all you need to do to be considered for the April SOTM is post at least one song in "Finished Songs" before April is over. Since you've posted a message in this thread, you should get a notice when April's top 5 are posted.
Yes, there's one for April. That's what this thread is for. There is also one for March and I strongly encourage you to hop over there and vote for your top three (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=10986.0). The more who vote, the better! If you follow that link, you'll find the top 5 for March, so you can listen to them, choose your three favorites, rank them in order of greatness, in your opinion, and PM your vote to Neil C, who is the March SOTM host.

The other points to Vicki's is the 100 post rule which is designed to avoid fly by posters and encourage people to regularly contribute. Beginning to regret it already - I have started to go back and listen through the month of May. There are a lot of very good songs to choose from. One question I wanted to ask - most songwriting competitions state they don't judge on performance and production, although I guess we know its a load of rubbish when they say that. Anyway...we shouldn't be doing that here should we? If I find a gem strummed on an 2-string acoustic through a mobile mic, I shall put it in.

It's a tough task. Difficult to evaluate a song in its raw state compared to all of the work that has been put in to produce a masterpiece. Good luck Martyn :)

Well volunteered that man! I once tried to give points for lyrics, melody, structure etc. which helped a bit with the selection... But there's always an element of subjectivity which is totally fine... And no two of us would agree 100% so go for it.
