Hi - second song this year so I am really cooking with gas (although I see that these lyrics date from 2019, ho hum).

I wanted to do something mentioning some brexit-ridiculousness, my dog who won't run away even though he is my prisoner, and how these modern times can have a lot of us happily hooked on something or someone that's really not good for us.

Of course there are a million other songs called Stockholm Syndrome, which I don't know whether is a good thing or not.

I think if I had a live band, this is probably the type of music I'd be doing (not that that made producing it any easier).

All constructive and specific comments welcome as always!

V1
Tommy's always been proud / to be from Engerland
He was told he could vote / for a foreigner ban
But years on they're still here / and he can’t understand
How MP's promises / just go down the pan

And Russians keep spending on luxury brands
But he's still shopping at Poundland

V2
Candy's kids are in school / and she fancies a spin
But for months she's been stuck  / on level 2010
She never pays to play / except when she gives in
Her big decision today's / between a wine and a gin

The reason why it's nowhere that she's goin'
Must be because they won't let her win

CH
Leavers and Remainers got Stockholm Syndrome
(Your politicians are avaricious)
Left and right-wingers got Stockholm Syndrome
(It's not because they're Europeans)
Porn and fitness addicts got Stockholm Syndrome
(Soon you too will be succumbing)
Dogs and Facebook users got Stockholm Syndrome
(Why aren't you running? Why aren't you running?)

V3
Jeff will never have sex / with Jean from New Orleans
But every night they exchange / photos between their screens
But now she says sorry / she's hacked his machine
And he's paying off a man / in the Philippines

And knocking out more situps while he dreams
Like they said in that men’s health magazine

CH

M8
Tommy got used
Jeff got screwed
Candy got crushed
Like all of us
(Stockholm Syndrome!)

Very topical @adamfarr You will be writing your next song about going into lockdown I guess ? If this is what your band sound like then I definitely need a ticket for your next gig. Really well put together track I thought with some excellent attention to detail. The lyrics are so spot on. I like the drop out and your bvs are great. This reminded me of Adam & The Ants in the Dirk Wears White Socks period and not just because of the Adam connection. A top piece of writing executed with panache

Very smart lyrics and the track has a much fuller and punchier sound than I might have expected...your productions get better all the time...although the Sherlock thing I was listening to again this afternoon sounded pretty amazing...

I thought the M8 stole the show a little...to such a degree that I thought as I was driving around that I might have replaced the chorus with the M8 instead...i thought they were slightly similar anyway (?) though I couldn't be sure...being away from my guitars which I might otherwise have grabbed to see if I was talking rubbish or not before posting 😀

Anyway...excellent and intelligent stuff from you again.

I've really enjoyed you being around the forum all these years and I think it's been great to see how far you've come. I hope that doesn't sound patronising because I really mean it in the nicest possible way.

@adamfarr - Excellent work Adam, love the lyrics, especially the porn stars and fitness addicts line. I agree with @pompeyjazz - it sounds like a off centre punk band statement song, you know, one that was full on like the pistols, but not sold out on the top of the pops trip.

You might consider making it 5-8 bpm faster, gotta get 'em out of their plastic seats.

@PaulAds I take that as a compliment and also it's true (and I had a long way to come!) (still have).

@pompeyjazz and @cowparsleyman thanks for the support as always - that's so my era - you can't take the Ants out of Adam...

I love it....great topical and entertaining lyrics as has been noted but what I like about it is how you sing it and how you let the instruments wrap around you while you do.

I also like the way the percussion starts things off and then keeps the song moving so nicely.

Hello @adamfarr, I always look forward to the songs that you write and produce.  I admire that you embrace many different musical styles and themes. It keeps your work fresh.  Your lyrical themes are so engaging. My secret to writing to writing is to embrace my emotions and write about my experiences.  I love that you make observations and comment on them through the medium of song in both a serious and playful manner.   I too can imagine you writing for a band, presenting upbeat compositions that the listener can both immediately embrace whilst also taking great enjoyment from the lyrically themes during more thoughtful times.

Well done

Paul

Just posting again @adamfarr because I had to put this tune on again as soon as I got to my office. This one is a real earworm.

I put it up loud on my computer speakers. When I do that early like this occasionally some of the folks from out in the plant who are just arriving will poke their heads in for a listen......this time there were a few. Beth, the forklift operator was dancing a little. That.......is something to see.  8)

So clever! I love the lyrics... I do love a songs which give something different and this does that for sure - some great lines in there!

Great sound - drumming is really good in particular. Great performances all round from ‘the band’ 🙂🙂 Big fan of the m8 too - agree with Paul. Candy got crushed, eh?

Complete ear-wormy toe tapper! I do believe I always enjoy your songs so I was delighted to see this pop up.

Fantastic @adamfarr !!

I love the attitude of this one @adamfarr

That is a great fuzzy tone on the guitar to support the attitude

The drums sounded a little "weak" at the start but as the track got going they fitted in perfectly

Kudos on the bass sound of the track - it is really tight and thumpy, just how I like it

The overall production was great, especially when the track got rocking, and I loved the stops and starts, which held my interest throughout

The lyrics and story were also great

I love this one. The lyrics are spot on and the song is delivered with just the right amount of attitude. As has already been suggested, it could perhaps be a tad faster and, for me it could perhaps have a bit more aggression guitar-wise without going too far over the top. But I like this..it says what it does on the tin!! Ha ha..there's an album title for you :)
