Hi y'all, this one is out and out 'cry in yer beer' country, complete with tearful Telecaster Tonez.

Sorry in advance to Tina!

Over the last number of years I've had direct experience with several family members and relatives of friends succumbing to the horrible personality robbing disease of dementia. It works when the Mind Fairy comes on a regular basis and steals little more of your memories. Since memories are mostly who we are,the dementia sufferer gradually becomes less of a person and just a slowly fading biological unit.

Yeah I know folks,it's a thoroughly miserable topic, but as we all live longer,it's become a fact of life for a lot of us. So let me have my moan for those I once knew, but are now a kind of living dead existing in a colourless twilight.

Vance Magill in action on this song, plus final mastering by the very patient Mr.Paul Boyd.  :)

Losing life a little at a time
Disappearing piece by piece
Vibrant colours fade to grey
A restless mind that gives no peace

Memories are all we have
Defining just what we are
The pain of not quite remembering
Out of grasp,near yet far

The eyes that once shone with life
Gaze with confusion and hurt
People talk in riddles the mind cannot grasp
Always on the outside of the curve

Not in on the joke, but laugh along
It's the one thing you still can do
It's the colour of life, the need to belong
Something to carry you through

Memories are all we have
Defining just what we are
The pain of not quite remembering
Out of grasp,near yet far

Martin Magill - keyboards, recording and mixing
Fiona Magill - lead vocals
Colin Vance - bass
Davy Vance - guitar
Mastered by Paul 'Boydie' Boyd

Hi Guys,

Nice tune and production, Love that country feel, very Nashville.

Vocal is really clean, well done to your vocalist.

I like it, up my street.

This is pretty damn good skub, without the pretty.

Probably the best I've heard from you and the Magill clan.

It sounds like it should have always been there as a staple of the country genre.

It might not be everyone's bag if they're not into country but this is good quality and well put together. Love the piano.

The only thing that would be the cherry on the cake for me would be a real pedal steel. I think I heard a lot of sliding imitators in there that did a good job but I don't think I spotted the real thing, could be wrong.

This is minor though, very minor.

Great work.

This is wonderful! One I would like to add to my repertoire to honor my friends and family affected by dementia. I don't think I could pull it off, though....

No nits from me.

It sure is a horrible disease Davy and to see someone you know being taken over by the Mind Fairy is utterley desperate. Love this one, telecaster the star for me and the vocs sound excellent as usual but are more up in your face which makes the song more personal. Some delightful little licks and touches and 5 star production  :)

On my first listen I was thinking of Richard & Linda Thompson as much as country music...
oh my goodness I love their albums...they made 'miserable' sound exquisite! So they never depress me....

Theres some lovely guitar touches here as I would expect Davy, & your tele sounds like its got shiny wings & the power of flight
Fiona is the bizness as usual tho I didnt think the melody was as memorable as the lyric on the first listen, tho second time around Id changed my mind & realy liked it..
I dont mean to grumble but I thought the drums had the wrong sound for country
they sound like the drumkit somebody like Blink 182 would have??
Im sure the Aussie radio guys will be talking long into the night about this & maybe even play it if they stop talking long enough :)
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

Great song concept. I really like the idea of memories defining who we are when we're older. Must be horrible to feel them taken away.

I went around the houses with "out of grasp" - at first I thought it sounded a bit unnatural (in contrast to the rest which is very normal and natural). A few listens later I thought it was fine, gave an original touch, and made it quite universal by avoiding saying out of my grasp, your grasp etc.

The mix sounds really big - from lows to highs, very spread out. This may be a Boydie mastering touch or just good arrangement but it felt good.

Sounds fantastic...vocals are amazing.

A tough subject handled with great care and sensitivity.

The opening bars of sumptuous, spanking, twanging guitar had me sold from the off.

A top TOP TOP song!

another real goodie with great heart
reading the words i expected it to be slower but it rocks as it weeps..
and gets its message across
sad fact of life these days think everyone can relate to and empathise with..
fiona puts everything into it fine vocal
guitar solo comes in lovely with cloak flying in the wind..  superb bite to it and phrasing..
wasn't sure about the mix first time round thought it sounded compressed but next time i turned it up and it flew..
i know i know don't ask me..
great work
i may not believe this tomorrow...

Hi All,

Well, that was a bit good wasn't it? ;D

Cracking vocal performance.
Rock solid playing.
I'm not exactly a country fan, but I really enjoyed this.
Very pro sounding arrangement. Loved the keys just poking around in the background.

Great stuff.
