I wonder if we could have our own Eurovosion songwriting competition and also how about writing an England World Cup song

That sounds like it's worth doing then ;)

I'd love to write a World Cup song for England, but sadly I am uninspired. Del Amitri got it right with their entry:

The Dels never really put a foot wrong throughout their songwriting career.

The Eurovision Song Contest is for me more uninspiring than writing a football song. Occasionally, I'm compelled to watch the beginning of the show but it drags on for ages and mostly the songs are bland and easily forgotten.

The entry from Belgium is a decent song. It reminds me of Sheryl Crowe a little when the melody soars and the entrant sings "Before it all echoes". Melodically, it's very similar to when Sheryl Crowe sings "Until That Day". The similarity is quite a shame. I wish the artist had taken this song back to the drawing board at this point and written something original to continue the early promise.

Here’s my unofficial Eurovision entry...obviously, I’d like all the people of Europe to live together as one big happy family.

Date Of birth: yesterday
We’re all at the dawn of a golden age
Ignore the dead canary at the bottom of the cage
Groundsmen hoover up freedoms autumn leaves
We’re the guardians of the future and the history thieves
Any further referenda are considered a must-win
And sovereignty’s consigned to the historical dustbin
Nationalism’s such a drag
We’re rallying round a different flag
Homogenise the human race
Consolidate the power base
It’s designed to have a few flaws
Like locks on the outside of doors
You’re engaged in a struggle that we cannot let you win
So it’s harder getting out than it was getting in
Relax in the wellness suite, go for a swim
Sweat it out in the sauna, kill yourself in the gym
There are therapy sessions to help you unwind
Fill up your senses and empty your mind
The staff are forced to bow and scrape when let out of their cages
For the maximum of effort and the minimum of wages
And the car park reveals some interesting choices
Half a billion bicycles and 4 Rolls Royce’s
The air con spews Chemtrails in everybody’s room
The endless mindless optimism fills me with gloom
A fog of smoke and mirrors Manufacturing consent
And it’s only when it’s gone that you‘ll wonder where it went
The Conference Centre sounds pretty unassuming
Where corporate assassins role-play being human
Get your five-a-day of forbidden fruit
Smuggled in up the laundry chute
With two-way TV’s on everyone’s wall
We hear your confessions and plot your downfall
Your perfect weekend is finally complete
With a stage-managed tryst in the blackmail suite
Democracy matters not one iota
Unless you happen to be our kind of voter
Our Facial recognition system brands you a no-hoper
