The Weight Of Hate

The weight of hate lies heavy on your shoulders
Occupies your mind as your heart grows colder
It'll eats at your gut creep inside your soul
You will never have no peace until you let it go

Hate is a mighty heavy burden to bear
You can't pretend that it isn't there
The weight will drag you down eventually
Until you let it go you can never be free
Until you let it go you can never be free

Break free you gotta break free
Break free you gotta break free

The weight of hate lay heavy on my shoulders
Occupied my mind made my heart grow colder
It ate at my gut crept inside my soul
I never have no peace until I let it go
I never have no peace until I let it go

Break free we gotta break free
Break free we gotta break free

Hi Pat,

this is very good indeed. Tom Waits meets Calexico. My favourite part was the surprise shift to "It'll eat at your gut, etc" wonderful. 5 minutes flew past. What a way to start a Sunday morning.

Great lyrics. Very impressed.

Yeah I'm hearing a bit of Nick Cave too and a lot of Lou Reed as well as Waits. Love the low almost guttural vocals. Piano and sliding guitar rich sounding and mellow. Overall the production is very good. I would have preferred a little more variety in the piano playing. It felt like a stock backing track, but that's a minor quibble. Good stuff Micky.

Hey Guys apologies for the short intro on posting, it was a late night  ;D  ;D  Toney sent me an updated version today he just added a bit more of his vocals at the end.

Thanks Keith, great to read, Toney's vocals is definitely a class act no doubt about that, hope your Sunday went well my Sunday morning was spent watching my son's under 14 soccer team win their first game of the new season, very impressive, thanks again mate.

Thank Mickey, guttural vocals he sings them well, great feeling to get another song recorded with Toney, thanks again to you both.

Yo Pat and Toney.

The repetitive piano give the song that NIN Hurt feel and while opinion may be diverse on whether it ought to be varied from the loop,I think variation may lose he song some of that desolate vibe.

The pedal steel compliments the plodding, ominous progression and as others have mentioned,it's the kind of thing Tom Waits would throw at us.

Always great to hear your stuff folks.  8)

This is an atmospheric piece with a nice backing track..just not sure about why your singing in such a low key...going over my head maybe.. ;D

Very effective at getting the mood across. Bit Leonard Cohenesque in places... I think it has enough variation. Very nice performances including in the backing. Yeah, a goodie.

Dude you sing so low! It sounds like a bit of an effort but I really dig it.
You use that pedal steel real nice too.
I like the different vocal styles here, the normal vox, the ultra low one and the talking one. You use them all to great effect.
Shades of Johnny Cash at times.  I really like this, man!

What a cool contrast between the deep dark voice and the lazy, arid steel guitar. Awesome song. I loved it.

Nice. Those are some bassy sounds on the vocals, wow.

Personally I would have mixed the vocals and the guitar a bit higher, but that's all a question of taste I guess.

Very moody.

Thanks Silver Machine, singing low believe me its no effort at all is just me and Toney having a conversation in words of song before during and after a few beers  ;D   ;D  the great pedal steel playing is Toney, theres more to come   8)   8)

Pat and friend,
well that sounded fresh in the morning.
Backing very good and love the pedal steel, its such a mournful instrument and produces a great back drop for your delivery

Sounds a bit like an old Dylan aping an old Cohen. lol.
two of my favourites

I really enjoyed those voices!
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.
