Well this was interesting challenge thanks guys.
Firstly great to play along to such a powerful drums. I had some lyrics to work on from Katie, The initial riff, chords and melody all came together pretty quickly but trying to keep the energy and vocals took a while.
Tried to keep it to to 3 mins with the urgency spirit of the late 70's... :-)

Anyway look forward hear what your comments and what Katie thinks as she's not heard it yet!
Its been fun listening to the other tracks too.
 :)

Runaway

I'm sure you've been before
One of those days you can't take no more
Runaway from this place
I wanna go somewhere to find my space

Looking out to my life ahead
I think to myself "I'm along time dead
Runaway

I know you've been there before
One of those days you can't take no more
Runaway, I can't face today
All I can do is get down and pray

Looking out to my life ahead
think to myself "I'm along time dead

I'm sure you’ve been before
When you just can't take no more
Runaway from this place
I wanna go somewhere and find my space
Runaway

Runaway, run from this place
One of those days I want my space
All my dreams that I ever had
Ain’t happening and its making me mad

I'm sure you’ve been before
When you just can't take no more

Great collaboration. Awesome riff. Really rocking. I dig the harmonica. So cool how many variations we're getting out of those drums. This one stands out amongst a fantastic field. Excellent job.

The next contest should be everyone using the same set of Katie's lyrics.

Yo Neil and Katie.

Mighty fine riffing starts the action into a song in the style of 'Should I stay or should I go'. I'm hearing all those 60s bands like the Troggs and the Who. Great lyrics.

A brill version!

Wow - this is what you get when The Jam meet The Stones! (and maybe some Kinks or Yardbirds or something thrown in). Your vocal is really good here and the harmonies excellent. Some funky bass in the breakdown (I think everyone's breakdown has been really different and interesting so far!).

Lyrics simple but effective. Really got me bouncing along. We really need some 169 bpm (or 179) in our lives and this competition has shown how fun it is to do...

uptempo and excited that's what this song is, it is also dance-able I haven't listen to a song like in a while so I was entertained. I don't have anything bad to say but I will say in a good way, I enjoy the listen.

This is great you two. Love the dirty telecaster sound a la Wilco. It's got bags of attitude and really rocks.  The lyrics are engaging and clever and fit the song really well. Thought the breakdown was very well done.  Another competition stonker  8)

Hi guys, excellent collaboration, great drive to the song with the lyrics fitting sympathetically into the rhythm. Harmonica works brilliantly in this. Might be the best thing I've heard from you Neil!
Cheers

Cracking stuff this, you two.

Great riffing and a super vocal.

Reminded me a lot of Dr Feelgood - with the spiky palm-muting tele sounds and mouth organ. Sounded excellent!

I think this one will do really well  :)

Hey
I really like the harmonica, clapping  and the 'runaway' hook where you pan the vox off to the sides. Those combined take it away from the more punky entries and more into americana territory, which is cool, makes it stand out a little more!
I don't think the break ("I'm sure you've been before") is quite as good as the rest of the song, but it is very short so doesn't detract much

Hi Neil and Katie

What a cool song - great lyrics and memorable melody and chorus.
Loved the harp too.

Great riff and harp sounds like it ought to be in a song from the early sixties. Like the second

'I'm sure you’ve been before
When you just can't take no more
Runaway from this place
I wanna go somewhere and find my space'

where it takes off suddenly ...at 1.00 or so...great bit there.

Good energy...hard not to with the drums...and that's a snappy hook/title you got there Katie.

Just read the other comments and yeah....Yardbirds, Pretty Things come to mind with that riff and the harp.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.
