Title: Solar Midnight
Post by: shadowfax on January 06, 2017, 10:10:47 AM
Hi, A song I've had around for a while but I don't think it's been posted here..been very busy over the last month so struggling to keep up...If you take a listen, I thank you.. :)

https://soundcloud.com/knmac/solar-midnight-by-knmac

I've never felt this way before,
I can't believe the way i love you,
aint gonna look around no more,
I can't believe the way i love you,

was feeling down but then you came my way,
now i think about your loving everyday,
I never thought I'd be the one to fall,
now I'm begging on my knees,I need it all,

Your my solar midnight x4

A blinding light is all that i can see,
and the nights when i'm alone,
it shines on me,
feeling like I've got no words to say,
so take me by my hand and lead the way,

Your my solar midnight x4

If you could see the way I feel,
Then you'd know where you should be,
I'll show you how if need be,
the way you would never see,

Your my solar midnight x4

I've never felt this way before,
I can't believe the way i love you,
aint gonna look around no more,
I can't believe the way i love you,
I can't believe the way i love you,
I can't believe the way i love you, ©KNmac

Hello Shadowfax. It's a gentle but catchy dance tune. Reminds me of some of the classic house tracks that used to play at Tokyo Joes nightclub in Preston in the 90s!
I like the effect on the vocals too. Can you provide any insight into what effect that is? Congrats on the song. It stays in the head after listening so a good sign. It's memorable.

Hi Micky..the effect on the vocal is Melodyne set to 100% pitch correction, I used it because I reckon it suites the song..ta for listening mate.. :)

Nice dance production! The autotune vocals sound great and the pulsing synths are great.

Would benefit from the really aggressive drop section after the chorus I reckon. Have you tried removing the bass from the chorus and then bringing it back big style after the chorus?

Also a strange double snare hit around 2.59 sounded out of place, maybe worth changing.

Super stuff, I enjoyed very much :)

Tom.

Hi Kev...

A nice change of direction! Bangs along nicely in what I guess is a '90s style. Another string to your bow.

Quite infectious, really...I also found myself humming it five minutes later...had to have a quiet word with myself  :)

Great stuff.

Hi Kev. I must be honest and say that I'm not the biggest fan of auto tune vocals but this works very well. You've captured this genre very accurately. I can just imagine this blasting out at a foam party in Beetha. Some great synth sounds going on. I particularly like the bass. Impeccably arranged and produced as usual but wouldn't expect anything else from you. Smashing work from you. Cheers John

Btw Kev, I was talking about Ibiza in the 90's not the 80's  ;D

That's a real floor thumper! I could hear this wafting up the club steps or in a club film scene.

I can't stop hearing "You're my soul at midnight" - quite a good line too!

It could be me but the rise in volume at 3.00 seemed quite steep and could be a bit more gradual...

Nice stuff and the vocal effect sounds just right for this style.

Hi Guys..John..no problemo mate..I don't care if it sounds like it should be played in a club in Mongolia..as long as it sounds like it should be played somewhere that's ok by me..

Adam, ta for listening and it's 'your my solar midnight' :) :)

Kev,
had a few listens to this before responding. Had an old man wanting to get his dancing shoes on!
Its got a great simple groove that is infectious and would be fab in a club imho.
The rhythm track has some real power to it and the platform for your spacey vocals and the synths which have that modern pumping feel.
Thoughst - just wondered whether you should have  stayed to the repeated chorus at 3.06 instead of the repeated verse at the end but did like the variation right at the end "i cant believe the way i love you"
 :)

Hey I like this! thats a great beat & the verses are awesome ....pure dance hedonism
unfortunately that made the chorus seem a teeny bit of a anti climax which was a shame..
it wouldve been better if the chorus lifted it higher instead of bringing it down i thought

the bridge part was nice but it seemed to drop out of the EDM genre there...maybe it was just a bit quiet

anyway I am always telling you to improve your lyrics
& you are always saying pop songs do not need good lyrics
& my thoughts on that are Kevin you are not a pop star..you are a album artist..
but after hearing this maybe you are a pop star! :)
as long as you are still a teenager of course ;D

Yo Kev.

Although it's not my era,I have a secret weakness for melodic EDM and this one ticks that box.

You've moved up a decade or so!  :D

Lovely clear production,my noob daw ears can hear sidechaining in action right here. Lookit me,getting all nerd-speak on yo ass.  :D

Joking aside Kev,your attention to detail and pure classy sound are now expected every time I listen to a new shadowbox choon.

High is the bar at chez Kev.

Ah, the Cher effect - and very effective it is too. I have to be honest and say this is definitely not my genre (I'm too old, even the 80s are a bit too modern for me). Love the interest you keep in the track with the breakdown about 2.30. And the whole thing does bounce along with a lovely melody holding it all together. Just my first impressions as studying something I don't fully understand will yield anything more meaningful!

Hi Bill. you don't have to like a piece of music to make some sensible comments about it...we are all doing it all the time, it's what makes this foreum tick!
thanks for the listen my friend :)

Ooooh takes me back to my late 90s/early 00s days (well, nights) - not just the clubbing, but spending huge amounts on synths (Yamaha FS1R and Novation Nova if anyone's interested ;) )....

Must admit, I've always preferred the vocoda to the autotune, but perhaps that's from listening to too much Kraftwerk.  Think it sounds good in this though.  And I quite like the drop and bounce back around 3:00.  :D

Hey, it´s a thumper from you with Cher effects! Love the beat and synth on this, it makes for a great dance tune. I love the development of this song e.g. using the echo in the second verse, and the chrous is a catchy one (although maybe some harmonies would be good?). I quite like the drop down but maybe you could keep some rhythm/beat there...but to be honest I liked it as it was. Great dance tune!

Hey there Shadow........I really like that driving pulse in the rhythm that hits the beat.....but, what I really like, even more, is that ethereal ambiance, hovering high in the mix, framing the whole sound......very Moody Blues of you  ;D
Good song, and nice work....as is the one Vickie chose from you for the Dec. song pics ;)

You constistantly produce a good quality sound but I'd like to see you come out of your comfort zone and moving from the 80's to the 90's is the first step - LOL :)

Aside from one "aboutchore" (about your), this is perfection to my ears. I enjoyed the Melodyne effect, and all the synth stuff and everything else about the production that I don't really understand was just wonderful in my opinion. If we have to have sappy love songs, they should at least be awesome like this one.

It's a great dance tune and I was surprised to see it's nearly 4 minutes long because I was going to say it's a bit short for dancing, isn't it? But I guess, you're supposed to leave 'em wanting more, so it's just right.

This really should be on the radio, on TV...it's very polished and professional. You know, like pretty much all your stuff. :)

I'm with CaliaMoko on this one. God, it's infectious! Autotune works great and the whole thing is majestic - should be a massive hit this summer in the Mediterranean clubs.
