Hi,
Here’s a bit of upbeat fun written to Tom’s wry take on the North/South cultural divide.
The lyrics were posted in late 2016! So taken my time to update the demo...
Went for the sloppy live sound:-)
Let me know what you think and keep safe.
:-)

I don't dig your roots yeah yeah yeah
you're wearing Chelsea boots but you've got no flair
you shop at Harrods and drink champagne
well i eat parrots and sing in the rain
have you ever been to Bradford or been up north
hey yeah Tarquin just go forth
have you ever been to Salford or been up north
hey Lucinda just go forth
you shop at Harrods and drink champagne
well i eat parrots and sing in the rain
we're all divided by the great divide
fat Sharron yeah lets go for a ride
we're all divided by the great divide
So let it slide, let it slide
flat caps and whippets and pigeons and pies
i've seen the northern lights in the northern skies
in for a pound i'm in for a penny
she drinks like a fella that's my auntie Jenny
ask me no questions and i'll tell you no lie
a little piece of heaven and the place i will die
in for a penny i'm in for a pound
and pub rock n roll man what a sound
we're all divided by the great divide
fat Sharron yeah lets go for a ride
we're all divided by the great divide
So let it slide, let it slide

You've got a good sound here Neil, particularly the multiple voice sections, they sound really good and the descending guitar work..fab 8) lyrics are spot on...sounds live but not sloppy..a result in my book!
good work mate!

Hey Neil ;D. Hope all is well with you and yours old friend ;D ;D. It's been over 10 years now, hasn't it? Seems like it anyway ;D. I remember when you first joined, and told us that you had been keeping an eye on us for a while, and had decided that this was the place for you ;D and since then, I've watched/listened to you improve exponentially (topical word), and now you've come up with this gem of a song. It's definitely one of the best things I've heard this year....anywhere. You might have noticed that I've been listening to it everyday. I just love everything about it. It floats my boat, right up my street, and puts me in cliche heaven ;D ;D. I've always liked the 'Kinky/wasted' feel to your vox, and it carries this song perfectly. it's a testament to your dedication, commitment, hard work, and, most of all....TALENT ;D ;D
I bloody LOVE T ;D ;D. (have I overdone it ? ok....you don't have to pay me as much :P)
A true Lion of the Mountain ;D ;D

Hi Neil,
I agree with Binladeda - this is one of your best ever songs. Your lead guitar style is so distinctive and the thing really rocks along. Love the descending notes part in fact, I live the whole thing. In a different, better world this would be a huge hit.

Great vocals and great guitars, lead and rhythm. Love the harmonies that really give the chorus some brilliant energy.
Super-fun lyrics too (do we know Tom?)

Aw I miss Tom...he's from just down the road from me...haven't seen him around in ages. Always wrote really great stuff!
Yeah...this is a real treat, Neil. Guitars are great.
I wonder if there really is a north/south divide...and, if so, whether the coming financial disaster will drag more of the upper and middle classes down a little closer to my level.
Maybe it'll be poverty that unites us...the one thing money can't buy :)

Love those guitars & great production. Super job Neil.

@shadowfax (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20024) - Kev thanks for the great feedback, live but not sloppy :-)
@Binladeda (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18620) - there's little point with damning with faint praise, please just say what really think. I will come down to Brighton after lock-down and by you a pint :-)
@montydog (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18653) - thanks Alan, and as you say in a different world they'd all be!
@Sebandme (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22491) - the guitars were a lot of fun, trying to get the live and tight enough, especially the solo section
@pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269) - thanks a lot John
@nooms (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=11264), 'Brilliantly relentless" :-)
@IronKnee (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20409), Tom great to see you back and firing on all cylinders, keep well
@adamfarr (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20124) , cheers re the harmonies, worked hard at them. Tom was on the forum during 2016, see PaulAds below.
@PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) - Tom had great creativity with lyrics, some fun images and internal rhyming, I think I wrote four songs to his lyrics. "Poverty, the one thing money cant buy". Now thats a great line.
@5 guys named Lars (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22535) - thanks you for listening and your comments. I think there are maybe 4 guitars in the solo. You cant have too many :-)
-
Hi Neil... It's a line from John Cooper Clarke :)
I'm sure I heard it in a 70's comedy too...but can't remember where...
-
Oh yes I remember, now - great lyrics kind of hip hop inspired.
-
Love the production work you did on this Neil, sounds fantastic!
The guitar licks are placed just right, not overdone but very tasty
when they come in. As mentioned you did great with the bv's
and how you mixed them with the lead Vox on the choruses is outstanding.
You have to many really good ones to pick a fav but this at or near the top to me!
