I wrote this one in the summer of 2015 (which makes it a very early Jambrains song) and posted it here in September so some of the old-timers might even remember it. I hope not because even though it is a good song the performance and production was, eh, sub-optimal?
Now I have finally gotten around to re-record it and while doing that
@MonnoDB also helped me with some lyrics tweaks. In that process the line that gave the song its title was scrapped so instead of being "A Weight Upon My Head" it is now "Lift The Weight". Really happy that I now have the skills to do the song justice. Hopefully I'll be able to redo it even better some 7 years in the future
I think of all the time that’s passed me by
While I waited for adventures to arrive
So many chances missed that I’ve lost count
Now the what ifs burn me up and pull me down
When I lay down in the darkness of the night
and I’m staring at the stars up in the sky
In a universe immense, I am so small
I feel meaningless, I am nothing at all
Lift the weight from my shoulders
Roll away this big old stone
Let me sleep a dreamless sleep tonight
Let me be, leave me alone
Please let numbness fall upon me
Strike me deaf, render me blind
Lift the weight from my shoulders
For just one night
I look into my father’s heavy eyes
The sparkle gone, a child in adult guise
The years of angry words break me now
Too late, I tell him how I really feel
Lift the weight from my shoulders
Roll away this big old stone
Let me sleep a dreamless sleep tonight
Let me be, leave me alone
Please let numbness fall upon me
Strike me deaf, render me blind
Lift the weight from my shoulders
For just one night
When I lean close to watch my child and hear her breathe
Wonder overwhelms me as she sleeps
Perhaps she’s my redemption, my last chance
To rectify the sins of the past
Lift the weight from my shoulders
Roll away this big old stone
Let me sleep a dreamless sleep tonight
Let me be, leave me alone
Please let numbness fall upon me
Strike me deaf, render me blind
Lift the weight from my shoulders
For just one night
