I wrote this one in the summer of 2015 (which makes it a very early Jambrains song) and posted it here in September so some of the old-timers might even remember it. I hope not because even though it is a good song the performance and production was, eh, sub-optimal?
Now I have finally gotten around to re-record it and while doing that @MonnoDB also helped me with some lyrics tweaks. In that process the line that gave the song its title was scrapped so instead of being "A Weight Upon My Head" it is now "Lift The Weight". Really happy that I now have the skills to do the song justice. Hopefully I'll be able to redo it even better some 7 years in the future  :)

I think of all the time that’s passed me by
While I waited for adventures to arrive
So many chances missed that I’ve lost count
Now the what ifs burn me up and pull me down

When I lay down in the darkness of the night
and I’m staring at the stars up in the sky
In a universe immense, I am so small
I feel meaningless, I am nothing at all

Lift the weight from my shoulders
Roll away this big old stone
Let me sleep a dreamless sleep tonight
Let me be, leave me alone
Please let numbness fall upon me
Strike me deaf, render me blind
Lift the weight from my shoulders
For just one night

I look into my father’s heavy eyes
The sparkle gone, a child in adult guise
The years of angry words break me now
Too late, I tell him how I really feel

Lift the weight from my shoulders
Roll away this big old stone
Let me sleep a dreamless sleep tonight
Let me be, leave me alone
Please let numbness fall upon me
Strike me deaf, render me blind
Lift the weight from my shoulders
For just one night

When I lean close to watch my child and hear her breathe
Wonder overwhelms me as she sleeps
Perhaps she’s my redemption, my last chance
To rectify the sins of the past

Lift the weight from my shoulders
Roll away this big old stone
Let me sleep a dreamless sleep tonight
Let me be, leave me alone
Please let numbness fall upon me
Strike me deaf, render me blind
Lift the weight from my shoulders
For just one night

Hola @Jambrains

It is a beautiful song, I love the piano and the simplicity of the arrangement of the first part, that instrumentation gives it a very special, delicate aura and when the rhythm appears it transforms the song into strength.
Ver nice listening!!!

Hi @Jambrains,
Nothing to add to Mora's review. The arrangement works perfectly. Nice song :)

nice song, the lyrics are great and you have a very distinct vocal which sounds great on this track. Glad you got round to re-recording it. Nice tune!

@Jambrains  a beautiful introspective melancholic song, yet the chorus still is somehow uplifting, sounds great with a great vocal too! 👌
Sound formed in a vacuum may seem a waste of time...

Wow @Jambrains, I was lucky enough to see what is left of The Eagles in Liverpool, UK, this week so I am in 70’s style narrative song mode. This song would have brought the house down at Anfield Stadium this week, it is emotionally involving lyrically with a great melody and super solo. Sadly, it seems you are a genius that got away from the mainstream world. But what a treat for the few of us privileged enough to hear your output. Plus Karen’s contribution too! 👍
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

Yo Johan.

Channelling your inner Pogue again,I hear!   8)

I really dig this track man and I can still here Karen's Irish influence, despite her absence.

Quality work man.

Another smasher from you @Jambrains with your wonderful Scandanavian / Gaelic fusion. All so cleverly done and great build to the song before the bass and drums kick in. Lovely guitar work but I would expect no less from you - Another triumph sir :)

It could be a song from the German band "Die Höhner". Same composition and voice colour.
I like it very much

Great structure, great fusion of genres with the Celtic rock blend, great pacing, great production.  It's, er, great.  A cleverly produced power ballad.
It's all too beautiful.
