Hi Guys,

I have recently joined a few sites which allow you to submit songs for consideration for selling to major labels, and most are understandably after Katy Perry/Ke$ha style dance songs, so this is my first song in that genre, enjoy and review as you feel fit!

'Dance Tonight'

I'm going out tonight...
Yeah, I'm gonna dance the night away.
Just me, my friends and I...
We've got disco-balls in rainy days.
I'm going heart first, keeping hold of my glass.
I've got my best friends keeping time with their hearts.
So watch my lips move...
Watch our hips groove.
We're gonna dance tonight like it's the last of our lives...
Let's dance tonight like it's the last of our lives.
Old friends, young blood, close enough to touch.
Dance tonight like it's last of our lives.

I'm going out tonight...
& I'm not leaving 'til it's the next day.
Just me, my friends and I...
With bass drum hearts in an radio age.
I'm going head first, keeping hold of my glass.
I've got my best friends keeping time with their hearts.
So watch my lips move...
Watch our hips groove.
Let's dance tonight like it's the last of our lives...
Let's dance tonight like it's the last of our lives.
Old friends, young blood, close enough to touch.
Dance tonight like it's last of our lives.

Hey Ben,

This is cool, very mainstream, radio friendly.

For all my knowledge (not much) it could be Katy Perry or the like, I think it's good.

Good music for the gym :)

sorry I can't help more, I'm sure others will offer more useful comments.

hab..

Very good song, I think you've achieved what you set out to do. However, I think it lacks a big hook. The repeated 'I'm going out tonight' is hooky....but, in my opinion, this sort of thing needs a BIG hook to make it stand out from the ordinary.  I like the vocals, and thought they really took off around 2.27, but that was nearly the end ;D ;D. I'd also be looking to introduce some sort of instrumental counter melody somewhere. Something that goes against the rhythm, maybe. ;D  But what do I know, it's all about taste...and mine is pretty dated ;D  Nice groove and contemporary feel.....very easy to see a Perry type video with this. Good work guys, and I wish you all the luck in the world with your endeavours ;D
Nowt as queer as folk...........my gran

Hi Ben,

Spot on you've got the genre nailed. its a very good dance track. The recording is great and the vocal performance is fantastic.
I like the lines
So watch my lips move...
Watch our hips groove  (a lot)

There are both vocal and instrumental hooks there but nothing that really grabs the ears on the first listen. Its the right type of song, the right type of arrangement and real quality but it's a very compedative area an I think that it needs a little spark. Wish I could put my finger on what it is.

Hiya

You're really close to it you know!!!  ;)I second what Bin and Gary says re the hook. Listen more to what it is from the last 50 no1s that hook you in.  List the hooks, are they vocal instrumental is it a spoken vocal/sung, fill in your spreadsheet, which one keeps popping up and see what you can do!!!

Everything (almost) is hear.  And check out the Euro markets too - they are far more open to newcomers.

I agree their needs to be another hook,  a little vocal hook with no lyric is usually quite effective from what I hear.

Great production, singer, keep going!

Thanks for your replies guys!

Thanks for all of your advice and help, I agree that I'm almost there too, the hook is always the hardest of the arts!

I'll keep writing and showing you all and hope to keep getting better :)

Thanks for listening and taking the time to reply

You've hit the genre right sound and production wise. It does sound familiar.
