Well I suppose I may as well take the lead in starting this thread off here in the Bar rather than in poor old Sjoerd_H's posting. As I said earlier I am afraid he was in the firing line a bit from frustrations that have built up over the last few weeks.

Anyone got any views/ideas on how we can balance things out a bit to avoid any bad feeling & disharmony???

Does anyone give a sh*t too?????

Hi, I didn't want to say anything on sjiords post as it is supposed to be about reviews.
I think a rule should be made that you wait till your song goes off the first page before posting a new one.
Also you do a minimum of 3 reviews for every song you post , if these rules are ignored there's plenty on here who would report the offender.
Of course you can't help it if a song comes back from page 2,
But that's rare.
There , that's my say done ,
Peace people.  ;D
I wanted to be a hippy....but my mum wouldn't let me !!

There's plenty of chat about this on my thread in the bar :)

I am not sure this is the way to resolve things as the bar is still a public forum so I do not think it is right to name and shame here

Forums I have been involved with previously have had moderators/senior members that have a private forum to discuss these issues and any individuals - as well as deciding what action to take

This prevents rash, knee jerk or aggresive responses

It is important to retain some perspective in all of this as we are essentially only talking about people that have posted their precious songs, that they are probably proud of and excited about, for some feedback without reviewing others, which they are probably nervous about doing before they receive critiques of their own songs!

This is hardly crime of the century!!!!

However, I do feel a few changes could improve the smooth running of the forum but it is by no means "broken"

i am very upset lee (schavuitje) has left over all this & this is what i said might happen
its tones forum & he doesnt want any more rules but he has changed the reivews guidelines to say only post 1 song at a time & a max of 1 song a week which is good if people bother to read it
i dont want people to think im a busybody telling them what to do & yes i do get much to involved in things & expect to much from people
but its obvious we cant present a united front on this i mean look at all these people who weve had a go at ...others are still reviewing there songs so im begining to think its my problem
so i have to step back & be less involved if i want to carry on here or leave like lee has done
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

The forum rules changes are good. Perhaps, tone, you could set up a welcome email in which the rules are laid out clearly but kindheartedly? This can be auto sent to new subscribers with the title "please read carefully before posting". Just an idea :-)

Then, we can refer offeners to the rules again should that not work, as a polite but clear reminder.

I did this recently and the chap apologised and I assume will correct his behave. The system worked. It will naturally take a few weeks to see if it is going to work for the majority of people.

For better or for worse, this is the Internet.  The anonymity inherent with the internet will mean some people will always be ruder here than in person. Tis just what it is.

Those of us that are kind and sharing will always get more out of this forum that those that aren't. Don't get me wrong, I am all for fairness. But I doubt there is a perfect solution. Just iteration on existing ideas :-)

Thread closed in favour of my new thread as opinions are getting fragmented http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/the-bar/no-holds-barred-speak-your-mind-because-the-forum-is-in-trouble/
